I know this is silly of me, but I'm just wondering....

Are there actually people who read the HP books and go, 'omg, Harry is such a wuss, especially compared to Draco Malfoy'.

You know, Harry. The one who always runs and hides and cries in Malfoy's skirts leather trousers at first opportunity. Except for all those times he kicks his ass. But he doesn't really mean to do that, see, it's just an accident.

...And then they go on to write bottom!Harry/Draco.

Is that how it works?

Haha, I am always hatin' on Draco in one way or another, haven't you noticed?? :)) I do love him, in an abusive sort of way, though.... And I like 'im feisty, so I sort of purposefully taunt my Draco muse so he'd get upset... I like 'im angry, dissatisfied, revengeful, horny, frustrated, annoying and annoyed. Um. No wonder I'm not the most popular H/D writer ever, I guess~:))

Um, and yeah, I know-- it's mostly that I've never read a believable total-bottom!Harry or top!Draco for that matter, not that I'm discounting it, per se. I also think it's very integral to Harry's character not to trust Draco or ever want to 'give in' to Draco (at first, this would still be in effect), and while Draco wouldn't want to give in to Harry either, consciously at least, I don't really see how Draco would 'win'. Therefore I tolerate switching but not bottom!Harry, because emotional vulnerability is right out for Harry with Draco anytime soon, and Draco would be much more the type to see power in getting Harry to want him (since he just plain likes attention/attention moreso than Harry by far).

How could I not?

Healthy relationship recipe, right there. But there's still a difference between bottom!Harry and weepy-uke!Harry.

Is it that obvious?? Hahahah, I guess it is. I don't write Draco 'cause 'oooh, such a delightful character'-- I write 'im 'cause I have something to say about 'im, I like his angst and snark and story potential, and the damn bastard WON'T GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!1 >:O He's... grown on me, but, I mean, I only like him in specific incarnations (Aspen's, Silvia's, Trin's, Maya's, Durendal's, Libertine's, Miss Breed's, canon, etc, ahahaha *cough*) I think all the Dracos I hate in fanon have soured me badly, and all the Draco worship and bashing and general brouhaha gets to me as well. All my friends are obsessed with him, and I sure think way too much about him... he's like a fungus in my brain, I swear. ^^;;;; (*shakes fist at sky, writes more Dracofic*)

Um. Yeah, that's why I never meant to say I can't see Harry bottoming, -ever-, or anything... it's more that I can't see him -naturally- just sort of -deferring- sexually to Draco, especially at the beginning of their relationship, especially because Draco's SO DIFFICULT TO DOMINATE OMG. AHAHAHAHAHAH YEAH RIGHTal;skjfadslkfjslg;kjfdlk;

How does feisty go with wimpy? Seriously!

The (NOT!) 'seriously' sort of says it all.

Wasn't this a serious thread as opposed to the one with the CAPSLOCK bold laughing at Malfoy's amusing aspirations of non-bottoming?
And you know, humour (especially parody) usually is used to convey meaning, as well, so it's not so outlandish that someone may disagree. Weren't you the one who got upset at someone joking over Harry being thick?

I guess what I mean is, there are differences in types of 'serious', and while I wasn't 'haha just joking' here, I wasn't trying to be fair/balanced/reasonable either. I wouldn't write a serious essay trying to say 'haha, Malfoy is a wimp'-- that's just ridiculous in terms of phrasing. When I said "Draco 'the wimp' Malfoy", I meant to exaggerate, mock, etc, in order to bring my actual point into sharper focus, which is that it's how Harry thinks of Draco, therefore having Harry be so willing to appreciate Draco's impressive dominance is just... funny. If I was talking about something like Draco/Creevey, the dynamic would be different, and I wouldn't say anything about Draco topping or even Creevey being all 'I could never top Draco 'the Stud' Malfoy. I was talking about H/D, and while you can mess with Harry's perception, Harry being all 'oh, studly impressive one' anytime near the beginning is just laugh out loud funny.

As for joking about Harry being thick-- that person meant it in a straightforward way, I mean it in a mocking way only. Meaning, I know better but I don't care.

I don't want to talk about the dynamics of this misscommunication, even though maybe it's interesting... I am just pointing out that I knew it was mockery, in the comments more than the post, but thought you were off about the thing you were mocking. I can't know that you know better but are writing something different than I should read because you don't care. You know? That's it.

Well, mostly it's that 'can't know'-- well, I'm no stranger to talking about Draco Malfoy, so that should be taken into consideration. While I like to hit him where it hurts, you can't seriously claim my understanding of the issues involved is so badly lacking-- that is, if you've read my more serious, non-partisan takes on Draco, you'd see that I don't tend to go around calling him names or mocking him at those times. I know there are 'better' reasons for Draco to be a bottom, right, and I know he's not a useless wimp-- but really, anyone with half a brain could get that much about Draco. But I wasn't trying to sound reasonable (as you noticed), I was just going for the 'fast buck', so to speak-- using a derogatory shorthand because it's fun and easy.
