I know this is silly of me, but I'm just wondering....

Are there actually people who read the HP books and go, 'omg, Harry is such a wuss, especially compared to Draco Malfoy'.

You know, Harry. The one who always runs and hides and cries in Malfoy's skirts leather trousers at first opportunity. Except for all those times he kicks his ass. But he doesn't really mean to do that, see, it's just an accident.

...And then they go on to write bottom!Harry/Draco.

Is that how it works?

The (NOT!) 'seriously' sort of says it all.

Wasn't this a serious thread as opposed to the one with the CAPSLOCK bold laughing at Malfoy's amusing aspirations of non-bottoming?
And you know, humour (especially parody) usually is used to convey meaning, as well, so it's not so outlandish that someone may disagree. Weren't you the one who got upset at someone joking over Harry being thick?

I guess what I mean is, there are differences in types of 'serious', and while I wasn't 'haha just joking' here, I wasn't trying to be fair/balanced/reasonable either. I wouldn't write a serious essay trying to say 'haha, Malfoy is a wimp'-- that's just ridiculous in terms of phrasing. When I said "Draco 'the wimp' Malfoy", I meant to exaggerate, mock, etc, in order to bring my actual point into sharper focus, which is that it's how Harry thinks of Draco, therefore having Harry be so willing to appreciate Draco's impressive dominance is just... funny. If I was talking about something like Draco/Creevey, the dynamic would be different, and I wouldn't say anything about Draco topping or even Creevey being all 'I could never top Draco 'the Stud' Malfoy. I was talking about H/D, and while you can mess with Harry's perception, Harry being all 'oh, studly impressive one' anytime near the beginning is just laugh out loud funny.

As for joking about Harry being thick-- that person meant it in a straightforward way, I mean it in a mocking way only. Meaning, I know better but I don't care.

I don't want to talk about the dynamics of this misscommunication, even though maybe it's interesting... I am just pointing out that I knew it was mockery, in the comments more than the post, but thought you were off about the thing you were mocking. I can't know that you know better but are writing something different than I should read because you don't care. You know? That's it.

Well, mostly it's that 'can't know'-- well, I'm no stranger to talking about Draco Malfoy, so that should be taken into consideration. While I like to hit him where it hurts, you can't seriously claim my understanding of the issues involved is so badly lacking-- that is, if you've read my more serious, non-partisan takes on Draco, you'd see that I don't tend to go around calling him names or mocking him at those times. I know there are 'better' reasons for Draco to be a bottom, right, and I know he's not a useless wimp-- but really, anyone with half a brain could get that much about Draco. But I wasn't trying to sound reasonable (as you noticed), I was just going for the 'fast buck', so to speak-- using a derogatory shorthand because it's fun and easy.
