Now... if you make fun of me for this, I will be very sad. Sad, I tell you! So like... don't. Okay, then.

Eeeeeeee, I just found this gorgeous goth Snape photography site(!!). Snape being all melancholy in a graveyard (well, and on Lily's grave, but it doesn't matter), and it's so beautiful and omg, real, somehow and now I want to write beautifully-grieving!Snape which is just... kind of disturbing and OOC, but who cares!!

Ack, I have such a not-so-secret fetish for goth photography and this is giving me a serious squee attack!! Aaaaack! I feel all Victorian and swoony now!! Saaaave meeeeeeeeee....! (Or, well, save Snape, I suppose, heehee.)

No, seriously, this is a very striking image to me. So many people draw Snape as all menacing-yet-sexual or just menacing or um... dryly sarcastic-- I love this vulnerable, self-destructive man. Paaaaain, my pretty. I like the paaaaaain.
And this definitely makes me want to write (bad) fic of some sort. *siiiigh* 'He' seems younger here, and... I dunno, I'm just a sucker, what can I tell you??! (There's just... something about a man in black out cold on cemetery steps. *weeps* Are my roots showing?)
There are more Snape portraits here, but uh... they're not as... convincing, shall we say :>

...just leave me to my gothy woes, dammit.
/over-defensive

EDIT - Eeeek! I feel like some love center in my brain just -burst- or something!...!..!..!! My dear woobie adorable raging 11-year old!Harry!<3333!! Aack, Glock's Harry is my faaaaavorite <33333333333

May I also suggest the appropriate goth soundtrack? How about 'I am streched on your Grave' by Dead Can Dance? I think it's suitable...

I love how Snape seems to be in such despair but his robes are still ripples artistically as he collapses so he won't get them wrinkled. I also have to point out that instead of 'Snape mourning in front of Lily's grave' it would have been much more interesting to see 'Snape jumping up and down with glee in front of James' grave' or 'Snape doing the Macarena in front of Sirius' grave'

eheeeee! Man, now I wanna download that song o_0
(Snape takes good care of his robes, didn't you know?)

Hee, maniacal!Snape holds a certain appeal, oh yes. Heheh of course that's just the flipside of depressive!Snape. He could be laughing and crying and tearing out his hair as he watches the corrosive potion spill over the stone, eating it away. Or something ^^; (After all, why be sad or glad when you can be insane....?)

I keep on thinking of Macarena!Snape all beaming with happiness in front of Sirius' grave. God, malice is one aspect of Snape I really cherish. Screw nobility!

Heheh, but pure malice would be boring, would it not? Like, two-dimensional. Wouldn't it be more interesting if he was both? Well, not noble, 'cause that implies ideals of some sort. More like... hmm yah he's just bitter and resentful more than sad. This whole why-is-Snape-not-a-Death-Eater is a question for the ages, it seems o_0 Hee

Oh, I would love that. I wonder if she takes requests? (Personally I mentally substituted somebody else's grave anyway.)

Perhaps we can commission something...

I'm curious, which grave did you substitute Lily's with? I can't imagine Snape in such a state over anyone's grave, unless he's got a really bad hangover.

Meh, because I am obsessive, I always go back to Draco dancing on Harry's grave. I wonder if I could write a fic about it. It wouldn't be long. Draco would compose lyrics to dance to.

"You're dead!
I'm not!
Ahahah!
I always said you stink!
And now you stink even worse!
Ahahah!
Who's the hero now!
I am the hero!
Someone starts writing!"

etc.etc.

...he sounds like a little goblin from a fairy-tale. Like Rumpelstiltskin :> Or Gollum. I can definitely see Draco as Gollum -.-

I like him as a character, man. It's just... I wouldn't want to slash him with Harry, for instance. If you know what I mean :>

Y'know... small... green... insane... that kind of thing :>

You just inspired me to write fic. I spent three hours doing research on the hp lexicon. How professional of me.

I didn't think of a specific person from canon--I was seeing him more in a state of despair over his own life. The grave was just a convenient thing for him to lean on while he was regretting his own situation, so he didn't even know whose grave he was at!

Yeah, exactly!! :D!
*is all happy* I love it when you say things for me >:D!
Snape's 'state of despair' is something I'm really fascinated with-- most people seem more interested in his bitterness or sarcasm or Slytherinness of whatever sort, but I'm (as usual) more into the pale underbelly of it all. I think I've never really felt like I had a 'grasp' on Snape 'cause people's ideals concerning Snape don't tend to touch me.

And all of a sudden, this Christian-mystic approach with the focus on despair, guilt, wretchedness, forgiveness & self-sacrifice (monastic ideals of sorts) really resonated with me. And it's not that I think Snape -does- act like that, but I think there's a useful symbology there to work with (for me) in understanding him better and attuning myself to him as a character.

I sort of want to write a post about all this (that sort of ascetic/monkish mysticism when applied to Snape), but I don't quite know where to start. It's such a weighty subject, and I'm slightly afraid I'll be laughed at ^^;;;

Also with the impossibly judgemental mentality: only person in the world he respects is Dumbledore, because he thinks Dumbledore is Christ or something. Anybody else is unworthy.

...I find it funny that the only 'non-judgemental' characters would probably be the Hufflepuffs and the Hufflepuffs we know are Ernie Macmillan & Zach Smith, both rather judgemental -.-

I'm actually unsure how he gets on with McGonnagal, for instance. I think he's just really hard-put to find anyone better/more intelligent/powerful than him that is also a compassionate human being (or a student, hahah). Actually, the Dumbledore thing makes sense if you were once Tom Riddle's follower, since Dumbledore's supposed to be the only wizard as powerful as Tom :>

I always get the feeling (or maybe I just like to think) that Snape gets on rather well with Professor McGonaghall. I always think of the Gilderoy Lockhart/Ginny disappearing scene in movie!Chamber of Secrets . . . united in taking the piss out of Gilderoy, they act like comrades, somehow. Also, in OoTP when Harry's about to curse the crap out of Draco and McGonaghall interrupts, there's a certain lightness to the conversation between her and Snape.

Also, Reenka ... I'd love to read that post about monastic!Snape, and thanks for the pictures, they made my day.

Hehehe if I wanted a friend for Snape, it'd be someone austere and no-nonsense who wouldn't take any of his shit, preferrably female 'cause he'd prolly get more defensive/stubborn around men. :D :D Heeee. Men are like that, it seems like-- some, anyway-- they seem to open up and/or become more communicative (if not soften) around a certain type of female. Even gay men, like.

I know what you mean about those scenes, yes. And now for some reason I'm having a weird association between McGonnagal & Katharine Hepburn o_0

Can people have One True Hate's in this fandom? This just makes me so happy, it's better than pot.

Nothing is better than pot, but One True Hates are beautiful things. Mine would be more of the Snape and Sirius variety though... *does the Macarena*
