er. yah. good fic, that. good fic. ...er. *chortles*
i was thinking about CoS and harry & draco's interaction in the movie being referred to as "hurt/comfort". this made it abundantly clear to me that i don't understand the whole deal with this concept. there don't see to be that many fics i've come across (ok, any), that would fit this category precisely, except possibly for that star wars fic where poor obi wan was being a sex slave for the Dark Side (*laughs and laughs*) and qui-gon had to go against the Jedi Council in order to laboriously track him down and rescue him. anyway, obi wan was pretty beat up, poor boy. and i mean -really- beat up. er. but that was smutty, and i'm getting the impression that hurt/comfort isn't supposed to be smutty.
but yeah. not a lot of harry potter hurt/comfort slash. is hurt/comfort even slash? it's sometimes mentioned as if it's an off-shoot of slash, like smarm. i don't personally see the attraction in war-ravaged, bleeding characters being bathed and given chicken soup by their male friends/enemies, but really what makes me wonder is the lack of this in this fandom. maybe with sirius/remus. and i guess it makes sense, because they're teenagers, it's not like they're warriors or anything.
i realize it's not a large amount of fics to start with. i haven't seen them proliferating in the gundam wing fandom either, and that's about warriors. 'course, everyone's obsessed with sex in that fandom. *laughs* seriously! eighty percent (probably more, really), of gw fic is smut. in fact, that's how it seems to go in slash, in general. it's pretty smutty, unless it's harry potter. i think it's the general notion, in a lot of tv-based shows, that all you need is an excuse for the two manly characters to throw off the shackles of their preconceptions and slide happily into a back alley somewhere.
you know, the sort of fic i've just recced. i love them, obviously, heh ^^;;
i just wonder what inspires the presence or lack of hurt/comfort vibes in a fandom. is it those gritty action-based shows? is it because it's easier, somehow, to picture guys bonding and being all pre-sexual passive/agressive rather than out-and-out crushing (oooh, crushing, my favorite-- don't see a lot of that in `the sentinel' or whatever, i'd bet).
i also wonder what exactly one is supposed to get out of those fics. of course, not like i'd know, since i haven't read them. but the idea slightly disturbs me. i sort of think i like violent, combative love/lust. i mean, i read the initial fight between harry & draco in `veela magic' and i squeal delightedly, mentally egging them on.
i don't know if i want either of them to comfort each other afterwards. that would be freaky. and indeed -focusing- on their bruises and pain and the senselessness of fighting in general, rather than the passion and anger involved, leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. i like the emotions behind the violence, but not the actual bruises and things that have to be comforted, i guess. you don't exactly go around comforting anger, do you, heh.
i should probably read some of these fics, if i was going to really know what i'm talking about. if anyone knows of any good hurt/comfort hp fics (even non-harry/draco, gahd help me), let me know.
