You know, I'm all in favor of intelli-emo. :) I remember you saying, once, that you thought extremely messed up teenage boys were kind of endearing; and I remember thinking well, I don't think they're endearing when they're all gloomy and cutting themselves and being hostile and unhygienic, but on the other hand I do feel a charged-up nostalgia for all the hyper-rawness and confusion that was wierdly energizing because of the way it suggested new feelings out there. And I think your Harry, here, is still in this phase, still bouncing and hopping from the pain rather than being all curled up and nihilistic. If, um, that makes the remotest sense. So yeah, I really do like the story.

Sparkly and bouncy, by all means! I think that's why I thought of pachinko, because my syster used to have a toy pachinko game when she was little, your post looked a little bit like how I remember the board. :) I suppose pachinko is kind of crusty and space-age, but it's interesting how it's part of a whole tradition (is it a particularly Japanese tradition? I think of J-pop this way) that combines overstimulation/trance with sweetness/comfort. It's such a bizarre combination, as if you were putting syrup on fish. And the wierdest thing is that it works, it's sort of disorienting but addictive. And staring at your post made me think of that; which may just mean I need an MRI. :p

It's heartening that you had so much to say to my being silly. I feel less alone in my rambliness, or something :> And I'm pretty impressed you remember stuff I said who knows when! But then my memory for specific things people said or specific details in general is always iffy. ^^;;

Anyway, I think I meant that I like the inherent charge and intensity and potential of adolescent angst, 'cause people don't tend to totally shrivel until afterwards (see, Snape's a great example, haha). Cutting and hygiene problems are unfortunate, of course, as I've read enough cutting fics to last me a lifetime. I think when teenagers are nihilistic, it's usually just an act-- they don't know enough to really believe it, they're just angry in a weirdly innocent way. I dunno if that makes sense. Notice how I don't find gloomy antisocial adults endearing so much, and that's 'cause they're often dead inside. Which is just depressing. Whereas if you're a messed up teenager, you're sort of painfully alive in a way most people don't achieve later on in their lives for any long stretch of time naturally, at least (unless they're bipolar and/or seriously unhinged in some way), to the relief of most people I imagine. Heh.

Heh, I'm glad you liked the fic, anyway. These days I can't think of it without feeling guilty I couldn't write a 'real' H/R/Hr back then & had to break it up into R/Hr & H/D because H/D bled into everything like a virulent fungus. I mean, I also think that it's OOC for Harry to be so cut off from them, maybe. Before I became really in tune with canon!Harry, it used to be a lot easier to isolate him enough so that he could be conveniently ripe for plucking, y'know. Now it'd be easier to write H/R/Hr and harder to write H/D. Ah well. I dunno if I've got anything to -say- about H/R/Hr except 'well, it's obvious, isn't it...' haha. People who write H/D with 'normal' Harry who just suddenly sees the wonder and glory and loveliness of Draco just sort of puzzle me to this day, heh.
