Reading through a (raw) Harry/Snape (and James/Snape) doujinshi, I realized what's been missing-- what's been holding me back from wholehearted Harry/Snape loff all this time. Yes.

...

...Bottom!Snape. Trouserless, still in his shirt with little schoolboy socks and boots, blushing(!!) as Harry owns his ass.

Oh Snape. Never knew you had it in ya.

I really, really especially laugh at enjoy the blushing.

Man. I love H/S (done right!) because it's so fucked up, but the bottom!Snape...ness just rackets it up another few notches, doesn't it? See, the best use for sexualizing a relationship in fic is like this-- it totally turns everything on its head while still illuminating core conflicts. Having Harry 'own Snape's ass' is beautiful, in other words, precisely because it's totally wrong (so wrong it's right! and it totally fulfills Snape's oh-so-sekrit desires while escalating his inner conflicts all over the place). Just like the pairing itself! Yessss :D

I really have the yaoi tendency for making the older teacher (and/or the cooler/more uptight one) the uke to thank here, and thank it I do :D
~~

Also: proof I can like bottom!Harry sometimes (rarely), and apparently only if [livejournal.com profile] ifyouweremine writes it (just add snark & resentment & obsession, then stir!) Ooooh, this one's Christmasy.... ♥

Hm, well, ever since they started producing more yaoi, all the manga seem extremely boring and soap-opera-ish, and the last few I have not even finished, be it Love Mode or Kiss Me Teacher or any of the other. Wild Rock, which I had stupidly looked forward to for a year, is awful! Haru wo Daiteita might be like good old Fake, but I never saw it before.

Generally, you can't trust the really uber-popular ones (Wild Rock, Love Mode) to be good because they're more likely to be soap-opera-ish. But by -far-, they're not all like that-- there's really a huge amount of variety, you just have to get your hands dirty looking for it and finding authors you like. There's quite literally all flavors, and at -least- 10 mangaka who consistently produce intelligent, beautifully-drawn work (and some who consistently produce uke/seme switches). With Youka Nitta (Haru's mangaka), most of her stuff is drawn in a unique Nitta style, but isn't too groundbreaking subject-wise-- I just like her character dynamic in Haru. It's by no means the best of yaoi, though.

As far as 'groundbreaking', I'd say Motoni Modoru (Koi ga Bokura wo Yurusu Hani), Sadahiro Mika (Under Grand Hotel & most other things), Yamada Yugi (anything), Kawai Touko (anything), Shungiku Nakamura (Junjou Romantica), Tarako Kotobuki (Sex Pistols and pretty much anything else), Sakura Haiji (anything), Yamakami Riyu (anything), Sigiura Shiho (Koori no Mamono no Monogatari), Sumomo Yumeka (anything), Tohjoh Asami (anything longer than one-shot porn), and there's more, of course :>
