You know what seems like a great idea right now??

A challenge (post-HBP-- preslash welcome) for short stories, something like....

"15 Ways for Harry Potter to hug Draco Malfoy and live to tell about it"

:D :D :D :D
The 2 criteria would be: no shmoop or sap!! I mean this to be touching or funny or a bit sad, but not... y'know, fluffy, 'cause that'd mean it'd be stupid & OOC. Also-- no pre-established relationship fics, man-- that's the whole point!
Deadline: something like.... August 30, that's literally 4 weeks from now >:D
    And! Artists also welcome! >:D!

I don't think I could easily come up with more than one. I mean, it is seriously a lot harder to get them to hug than to shag, I think, so I'm all excited :D

I mean, c'mon!!

There's been all sorts of rough sex and licking and fighting and so on in fic, but how often have they hugged???

...Oh, I'm a genius. And yeah, I'll prolly write one anyway ;)

So tell me if you're interested and like, uh... well, come back & comment if you write it, so I'll... make a website? Or a community? Or just link to them :D

i did it! it's just a very short drabbley thing, and a bit cliched. i might try writing a different one (maybe something longer, as i can't quite see making this one into an actual fic.) anyway, here tis. (http://www.livejournal.com/users/skrawl/16895.html#cutid1) hope you like.

hmm, i went back and read 'queer as malfoy' again. and you know, i do like it. you're right, it's much more real than a lot of h/d fanfic. i think when i read it before i got a little annoyed that harry always "wins" - even though draco is putting himself out there emotionally to some extent (e.g. by even *acknowledging* the power dynamic.) there was one line especially that got to me: "Let's try this again," he said, and it could almost have been called warm if they both didn't know better. though maybe that's just from their POVs. but it still kinda kills my inner romantic. still, it works (it does what you intended, disrupts our expectations.) it's quite true that power struggles don't just go away if you fuck (or even if you fall in love.)

i've wondered about the parallels between heero/duo and harry/draco a lot, especially since i like both so much (and the initials thing.) i think heero and duo in some ways make more sense - at least they're on the same side - but there's a similar antagonizing/opposites vibe in both pairings.

Reading `Queer As Malfoy' now, I realized it was just my mood, y'know... it culminated with `An Unlikely Pair', and then I stopped writing H/D for awhile, 'cause my romanticism was really suffering, and I -want- them to have the omg-forever love like WHOAH (...like Agape, y'know, friendship like in Underwater Light or Silvia's `And I Get By' or Draco Veritas, hehe). But I was feeling bitter and frustrated 'cause I just can't write that believably without a lot of build-up and context, and well, I'm a short story writer. So I wanted to be harsh & most of all honest, and I couldn't be honest, even in an established-relationship fic, without showing my feeling that they're just really messed up, my Harry especially.

I especially stopped writing H/D because my Harry became more and more of a bastard post-OoTP, to the point where it was hard to like him-- but I thought that was a realistic development, with him punishing Draco and taking things out on Draco post-OoTP because... y'know, stress, and Malfoy takes it. On the other hand, I didn't -want- Malfoy to take it and I think he wouldn't if Harry didn't regularly break down, also (which I didn't quite show in that fic or even in `An Unlikely Pair'). It -is- because it's their pov, though, and my problems with writing H/D were largely that I was role-playing Harry and channeling him so heavily it was interfering with any control I had over him as his writer :>

So yeah, that's a halfway intentionally problematic fic, and I'm glad you noticed that, actually~:)

I think Heero/Duo & Harry/Draco are both opposites attracting, yeah, and complementary-type pairings where one partner contributes what the other lacks. I don't think the opposite-sides thing defines H/D so much as their sheer and constant miscommunication and intrinsic chafing does, 'cause I don't think Draco was on Voldemort's side in years 1-4, y'know, he was just a Slytherin, and not a very good one at that :> I do think Harry is slightly more sane (less psychotic) than Heero (and Draco than Duo), but it's a close thing :>
