You know what seems like a great idea right now??

A challenge (post-HBP-- preslash welcome) for short stories, something like....

    "15 Ways for Harry Potter to hug Draco Malfoy and live to tell about it"

:D :D :D :D
    The 2 criteria would be: no shmoop or sap!! I mean this to be touching or funny or a bit sad, but not... y'know, fluffy, 'cause that'd mean it'd be stupid & OOC. Also-- no pre-established relationship fics, man-- that's the whole point!
    Deadline: something like.... August 30, that's literally 4 weeks from now >:D
    And! Artists also welcome! >:D!

I don't think I could easily come up with more than one. I mean, it is seriously a lot harder to get them to hug than to shag, I think, so I'm all excited :D

I mean, c'mon!!

There's been all sorts of rough sex and licking and fighting and so on in fic, but how often have they hugged???

...Oh, I'm a genius. And yeah, I'll prolly write one anyway ;)

So tell me if you're interested and like, uh... well, come back & comment if you write it, so I'll... make a website? Or a community? Or just link to them :D

I think Ron/Draco is one of the last "popular" pairings (meaning, not Dobby/McGonagall) I really dislike. I like Rowan's "Deep Water," and I think SF wrote a Ron/Draco fic once, but I just. Can't.

I am with you on "Every Second." I don't know if I love it best, but it just sort of took something out of me, and, agh. Rereading things like that is painful.

<333333. Non-fluff H/D hugging. It is brilliant really!

I think I'm pretty biased, clearly, 'cause I ship both Ron & Draco with other people, and, well, I think I just don't like most Draco slash, period, but... I sorta like my last remaining biases :> Also, my Ron is straight except whn he's experimenting slightly with Harry, but there it's just my mutual wanking thing rearing its kinky head :))

I think I love `Every Second', `Atrophy' & `Twelfth Night' all about equally. Which... er... I guess brings us up-to-date on Aja's darkest/most depressing H/D fics :)) Um. It's like, I -wish- the darker ones weren't the ones that stuck with me, but.... ^^;;

Apparently I will never stop commenting in your journal. :D It is hard for me to read Draco with anyone but Harry or Pansy! And yes, I really only read Ron/Harry, but only the really good ones, uh.

See, I love 'The Reader' (the most, maybe) and I really like The Properties of Being Lost/The Properties of Voyeurism. But then, I just read the Properties fics two days ago, so! :">

I forgot about `Properties'!! Yesh, I ♥ that, though sometimes I think anything I'd read in the last year will conversely not really affect me as much -.- I mean, I still pine for Tower With a View & IP-- 'tis sad :)) I really liked `The Reader' but thought its Draco was too soft/thoughtful/fanon, y'know? Though because it was Aja, I enjoyed it while I'd prolly snark at a similar Draco elsewhere. Because I read it after I decided to be all canon!bitch & stuff.

I think I love angsty!Ron/Harry, but then any pairing with a reputation for being too easy/fluffy, I want it angsty, and similarly with a particular author's groove-- if they mostly write angst, I love their fluff best, and if they mostly write fluff, I love their angst best. *is slightly disturbed by self* ^^;;

*is really enjoying the comment-thread of DOOM* :D

I agree about Draco in 'The Reader,' but it just worked, for me; besides, well, embarrassingly, as much as I veer more towards canonical Draco fics, Olympia's Draco holds this special place in my heart, always. Maybe because it feels like its own universe to me, I don't know. But I am done writing Draco as all wispy and moonlit, hahaha. For the website I am putting together now, I just updated my rec list, and there are really few H/D fics there, considering how much I've read. :"> See, I am becoming bitter and elitist too! Only not, but I just. Don't wholeheartedly love all that much of it.

So that is why you like 'Seaside Romancing!' *dies* I am totally a sucker for good writing, and if it's really well written, I tend to fall for it all the more easily. The only reason I like Harry/Ron is probably Helen's 'Close Enough,' actually.

:D!

There are tons of fanon!Dracos that somehow manage to magically work for me, hehe. Though, um, I just take the 'well-written' bit kinda for granted-- as in, of course it'll be well-written if I like it at all :)) Though I've become slightly less of a stylist whore over time ^^; Slightly :>

I dunno, it's very very personal/subjective, whereas loving canon!Draco is vaguely subjective but not as much...?? I dunno :D [livejournal.com profile] shaggirl once told me that my & Silvia's & Trin's-type Draco isn't non-fanon, he's just an adorable witty loser (ie, we add the wit/adorableness, though I do think canon!Draco can be, too, just... uh, not nearly as much) whereas fanon!Draco is more... uh, sympathetic and 'smart' and not a loser so much as misunderstood or whatever. My favorite fanon Dracos aren't misunderstood, I think-- like, Olympia's wasn't secretly a nice sensitive calmly intellectual guy, y'know?? He was all kinds of fucked up, and that's what appealed to me, though I pretty much hated her Harry :))

Wah! *clutches you to bosom* I feel so heart-fluttery anxious about the idea of bitter!elitist!you, sort of 'cause I always sort of think of you as this delicate poetic 16-year-old who should be protected from the world 'cause you're just so precious <3 *laughs* I try to root it out in myself, but it's hard ^^;;; *is protective* -.-

Yes, I had this feeling of glee anytime you wrote positive!H/D. I felt like you were breaking out of your dark morbid shell???! I dunno. Um. *coughs*

...And now I wonder if you've read Penelope's Harry/Ron!

I don't think I have! The only H/R fics that stick out enough for me to remember reading are Helen's 'Close Enough,' Anna's 'Moving Pictures,' and whatever SF has written.

I love that about Olympia's Draco too. But it was also a bit like reading about a dreamworld, somehow. I didn't hate her Harry, but I didn't really feel anything for him until Orpheus In Motion. Also, shit, I love loser Draco, who keeps trying and trying anyway. :(( <333.

Hahahahaha. Um. I am not really bitter and elitist! I still like flowers and sunny days and things! Which I did all along, even when I was writing OMG DEATHFIC every day. Hahahaha. This still makes me laugh. And kind of get all blush-y. I love yoou!

My dark morbid shell - hahaha. Hahaha. Instead of being an emo teenager (well, kind of), I suppose I made Harry and Draco emo instead. *RULES*

You should read His Belongings (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/999584/1/) then, it's sort of a H/R+Draco-type thing, and it's probably the most emotional of all Penelope's fics for me <3 You know, this reminds me how most people who post rec lists these days don't have much in common with mine-- at least partly 'cause the intellislashers are kinda dead and forgotten, y'know, and no one cares about the old crackfic like IP and Protective Bonds and even Origins.... man. I'm such a fannish hag by now :))

I know what you mean about the dreamworld feeling-- that sort of both enchanted & distracted/distanced me from the emotional vitality of it. I hated Harry mostly for the cheating, which... well, in my head Harry would -never- do, and also I just hated it on him 'cause he -loved- Draco, so it was so fucked up and wrong and. Nngh. But yeah, I liked him better in Orpheus in Motion, though... the moping... ahhh, the moping... at least in OoTP there was capslock :> :>

Yeah, I can't really picture you bitter~:) Not that you're sweet or cloying like um... some fandom people... um :)) More sweet like dew on flowers. I know that sounds really hokey & cheesy & stuff, but it's hard to describe these things ^^;;

IT IS SO SCARY & SAD & YET AWESOME THAT YOU FORESAW HBP DRACO ALL ALONG, KINDA AHAHAHZLKJfalkdjfa;sflkja

Man, I could not really read Origins, it is awful, I know! I think I read it, actually, but I couldn't get into it, so I only remember it vaguely. Actually, it was around the same time I read The Losing Side, and I can't separate the two. I have no idea which is which. :"> But IP <3! And the Intellislashers! Fics I still worship! Rhoddlet is sort of around, I guess? She wrote AU!Remus awhile back that killed me.

Hahaha. But I hate weepy Draco! I mean, weepy all the time! To me he was crying more out of frustration and panic anyway, and not like, omg life so hard, let me slit my wrists now. :(( (Which is clearly how my Draco used to cry. And then he would go sleep with flowers, or something. In the moonlight. Thinking about dead!Harry.)

It is the best challenge ever. :)))))

...I just... have to say I'm overwhelmed with love for possibly highly disturbed and necrophiliac!Draco. Crying as his blood poured over the poppies and his milk-white skin, though the heavens washed his pain away, etcetc.
...Er, but yeah, I agree he wasn't crying out of Angest & Woe... much as that would amuse me :))

Origins had sensitive!Draco too! Actually, so did the Losing Side... and so did most fics back then. Oh man. JKR clearly loves us ;))

Rhoddlet is writing SW:TPM now :-? I am also reading it. Man, I'd have totally switched fandoms by now if I could -write- anything else ^^;;

Haha, you are right, most fics were about misunderstood, hidden depths Draco. I think we've evolved in our view of Draco since then. But there is really nothing like how things were back in the beginning! Wah.

I just dabble in random fandoms. And after this fic, am trying to, like, back away! But. People like you make it hard. :))
