I am so shallow. I mean, it's too much bother to stop reading (and taking copious paper notes) & post about the less... uh, predictable things, but. Well.
It is canon, folks:
Harry, however, had never been less interested in Quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy.
:D :D :D
Okay, no, I changed my mind.
'The Boy Who Scored' would be much better to inscribe on someone's forehead. Say, Harry's. By Draco. *whistles*
...He... he stared down Draco's "girlfriends", and was left "infuriated", and then snapped at Ginny. I mean. Yeah. Do the math.
I myself was totally like... I know this isn't the 'monster' of his jealousy/lust for Ginny, but. It's some kinda monster, all right. It's just an even more repressed one. (Actually, he's not really repressing his feelings for Ginny-- they seem... normal enough, if confused and sudden). But this-- this is so... all-consuming he doesn't even notice it, because it's just part of how he thinks and who he is, man. It's. *sigh*
I actually think H/D is now more 'canon' preslash (I say this pointedly in quotes) than S/R ever was, I think. Mostly because we have firsthand evidence of Harry's state of mind here-- we have the smoking gun, basically. Whether it comes to anything or not is another question, but at this point I am seriously saying it's right there, in the text. I'm just being bludgeoned to death with it. I mean... yeah, Harry's paranoid, and yeah, it's necessary to the plot, but....
He's -way- over the top and into outer space. Way, way. way.
Also: Er-my-nee <3<3<3<3 :D

Date: 2005-07-18 08:52 am (UTC)Omg, right now I'm just giggling my ass off over Myrtle, and Draco being all 'sensitive' and 'lonely' and okay with crying :D :D :D I can't even. AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHA times FIVE MILLION. Ahem. :D :D :D NO, I MEAN, POOR DRACO, CRYING WITH MYRTLE, THAT IS SO SAD. (???!)
And Harry brooding/trying to get in for an hour = BEST EVAR.

Date: 2005-07-18 09:12 am (UTC)So now I've sort of spent a day checking out what people think (until I'm almost kind of sick of it, except for a few questions that grabbed me) and I'm rereading interesting bits right now. And noticing more stuff.
I think it would suck completely to have a reading totally animated by fandom-based questions. There is just an amazing amount of surprising and funny and wonderful stuff in this book, page by page, that never makes it into the big meta debates. I have some gripes with JKR, but I love her madly for her details and they make me forgive all.
Anyway, am being selfish because I should leave you alone but was tempted because no one else seems to be up and around. I should go to bed, anyway. Happy reading!

(...I take it you like canon again, ehehe.)
....you work with children, you say? o_0
well, they should understand about Harry Potter, at least. I'm not so sure about his perverse-yet-blindingly-obvious obsession for the sensitive boy in the toilet, though. :D

but love how Harry just thought Draco had "girlfriends," plural. hahaha. Boy needs a harem.
Reading at work, are you? best job ever!

Date: 2005-07-18 08:41 pm (UTC)I think Harry had always thought Draco had a 'harem' or a 'court' and would never really believe Draco was lonely or... um, human. Though I definitely snorted mightily at the bullied!sensitive!crying!Draco bit.
...Sometimes I think I'm really not a nice person. ^^;; Well, definitely not when it comes to Draco ^^;
...Nah, I'm reading -for- (instead of?) 'work' :> I take it v. seriously, y'know :>

Date: 2005-07-18 08:45 pm (UTC)The whole book is just H/D all the way, but who cares! Draco's in it. He can sleep with Harry or Snape or Goyle if he wants to, now that our boy's a real boy!

Date: 2005-07-18 09:22 pm (UTC)I really am mean to Draco :P Not when it counts, I guess, but. I feel like an older sister who loves to torture her younger brother to tears, sometimes -.- Not so that I'd enjoy his misery, of course, but definitely so I'd enjoy his annoyance, frustration and discomfort. And I also have quite harsh views on whom he should be playing around with, and tend to get quite pissed if he's seen with anyone but my chosen companion for him. After all, if he went to someone I didn't approve of (anyone but Mr Potter), that'd make him an ungrateful brat, wouldn't it, & I might have to give him a piece of my mind and/or torture him with visions of Harry mooning over Ginny & making happy red-headed children with her and forgetting all about him, now wouldn't I~:))

Date: 2005-07-18 09:26 pm (UTC)And Draco's a masochist - why else would he run after Potter? But didn't you already torture him with cute red-headed babies and Harry forgetting all about him? Or was that some other mean sister?
no subject
Date: 2005-07-19 12:28 am (UTC)And yeah, him being a masochist was actually what drew me to him at first, in fanfic. Otherwise the whole thing kind of loses its lustre for me; setting him up with someone to make him -happy- makes me as bored as fluffy!H/G. Hahah, I think I've written a number of triangular-type H/D/G fics in my time, though all I can think of you meaning is this one (http://www.livejournal.com/users/reenka/192638.html) :-?
you had this coming
Date: 2005-07-18 10:38 pm (UTC)He wouldn't be tortured, he had bigger things on his hands than Potter! Like Myrtle.

Date: 2005-07-20 11:21 pm (UTC)Actually, I can.
I guess it's good Harry has someone whose hair he likes?
If you start shipping H/S you're dead to me.
Re: you had this coming
Date: 2005-07-20 11:37 pm (UTC)And I've always liked Harry & Snape's dynamic, not really in a sexual way. But even if I sexualize H/D, I don't necessarily like -them- in a sexual way either. Agape rules all.

Date: 2005-07-19 02:24 am (UTC)That and the part where Seamus is forced to write "I am a wizard and not a baboon brandishing a wand". JKR is sometimes millions of times better than we are.

Date: 2005-07-19 02:53 am (UTC)And really, this book drove home to me that JKR is -often- millions of times better at we are, at plot-twists & characterizing her own characters, that is. Somehow, I feel we shouldn't really be surprised~:))
