I am so shallow. I mean, it's too much bother to stop reading (and taking copious paper notes) & post about the less... uh, predictable things, but. Well.

It is canon, folks:
Harry, however, had never been less interested in Quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy.
:D :D :D

Okay, no, I changed my mind.
'The Boy Who Scored' would be much better to inscribe on someone's forehead. Say, Harry's. By Draco. *whistles*

...He... he stared down Draco's "girlfriends", and was left "infuriated", and then snapped at Ginny. I mean. Yeah. Do the math.

I myself was totally like... I know this isn't the 'monster' of his jealousy/lust for Ginny, but. It's some kinda monster, all right. It's just an even more repressed one. (Actually, he's not really repressing his feelings for Ginny-- they seem... normal enough, if confused and sudden). But this-- this is so... all-consuming he doesn't even notice it, because it's just part of how he thinks and who he is, man. It's. *sigh*

I actually think H/D is now more 'canon' preslash (I say this pointedly in quotes) than S/R ever was, I think. Mostly because we have firsthand evidence of Harry's state of mind here-- we have the smoking gun, basically. Whether it comes to anything or not is another question, but at this point I am seriously saying it's right there, in the text. I'm just being bludgeoned to death with it. I mean... yeah, Harry's paranoid, and yeah, it's necessary to the plot, but....

He's -way- over the top and into outer space. Way, way. way.

Oh, not at all -- I admire you for having the iron will to read slowly. (I tried to!) And I definitely agree about the Chapter 19 stuff. I like your point about the smoking gun. I do hope you like the smell of cordite!

Oh yes, these bits got the red-coloured stickies attached. I did not take notes. And you still need to read faster.

It's not iron will, I'm just... uh, too wired/tense to read faster, plus I take -copious- notes & keep trying to -think-, plus I'm sort of scared of fandom right now -.- I think too much of it (like, reading my flist at all) might kill my enjoyment of the book all together :/

Omg, right now I'm just giggling my ass off over Myrtle, and Draco being all 'sensitive' and 'lonely' and okay with crying :D :D :D I can't even. AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHA times FIVE MILLION. Ahem. :D :D :D NO, I MEAN, POOR DRACO, CRYING WITH MYRTLE, THAT IS SO SAD. (???!)

And Harry brooding/trying to get in for an hour = BEST EVAR.

well, they should understand about Harry Potter, at least. I'm not so sure about his perverse-yet-blindingly-obvious obsession for the sensitive boy in the toilet, though. :D

I can't help but take notes; it's a filthy habit I first cultivated reading fic online ^^;;;

...I'm sort of... cringing at the amount of book left over shrinking. I'm sort of enjoying this :))

It's a bad habit I, too, cannot escape. Even while reading or watching something I try to phrase it into reviews. It's the sign of something gripping if I don't, but if it's too gripping I have to stop yet again and make notes. I've already got the post-book blues, nothing left to read anymore.

Draco playing around in closets.

Yeah, I think you're right about thinking it out for yourself before getting into the debates. I can never really assimilate stuff on first reading, so I just sort of go through it without making notes, but I definitely didn't read flist this weekend while I was reading.

So now I've sort of spent a day checking out what people think (until I'm almost kind of sick of it, except for a few questions that grabbed me) and I'm rereading interesting bits right now. And noticing more stuff.

I think it would suck completely to have a reading totally animated by fandom-based questions. There is just an amazing amount of surprising and funny and wonderful stuff in this book, page by page, that never makes it into the big meta debates. I have some gripes with JKR, but I love her madly for her details and they make me forgive all.

Anyway, am being selfish because I should leave you alone but was tempted because no one else seems to be up and around. I should go to bed, anyway. Happy reading!

I always liked canon, but never as much as now. I was just afraid canon was going to hurt me. But then it came with FLOWERS.

Yeah, but my kids are all disturbed and on Ritalin already. I think I get fired if I scar them with slash. :)

Haha, I'm pretty sure the H/Gers have nothing to worry about from JKR~:)) But at least now it's a lot less likely she'll kill off Draco, and we know that Harry's just in denial no matter what :>

...Of course, I always knew H&D were meant to be, but it feels nice to know that JKR sekritly agrees :D

Ah, but he wasn't leering, he was staring them down, 'infuriated' :D

I think Harry had always thought Draco had a 'harem' or a 'court' and would never really believe Draco was lonely or... um, human. Though I definitely snorted mightily at the bullied!sensitive!crying!Draco bit.
...Sometimes I think I'm really not a nice person. ^^;; Well, definitely not when it comes to Draco ^^;

not nice to Draco when you're using the cutiepie icon? Never!

Draco was in all the books, wasn't he :>

I really am mean to Draco :P Not when it counts, I guess, but. I feel like an older sister who loves to torture her younger brother to tears, sometimes -.- Not so that I'd enjoy his misery, of course, but definitely so I'd enjoy his annoyance, frustration and discomfort. And I also have quite harsh views on whom he should be playing around with, and tend to get quite pissed if he's seen with anyone but my chosen companion for him. After all, if he went to someone I didn't approve of (anyone but Mr Potter), that'd make him an ungrateful brat, wouldn't it, & I might have to give him a piece of my mind and/or torture him with visions of Harry mooning over Ginny & making happy red-headed children with her and forgetting all about him, now wouldn't I~:))

Date: 2005-07-18 09:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] balfrog.livejournal.com
OMG you're perving over your younger brother, OMG... whatever, the fandom loves incest and voyeurism, so have at it.

And Draco's a masochist - why else would he run after Potter? But didn't you already torture him with cute red-headed babies and Harry forgetting all about him? Or was that some other mean sister?

Ahaha, well, that's why I said -sometimes- I feel like his older sister :> :> Usually when I perv it's from Harry's pov, though. I've got an excuse, they can't get me!!1 :D

And yeah, him being a masochist was actually what drew me to him at first, in fanfic. Otherwise the whole thing kind of loses its lustre for me; setting him up with someone to make him -happy- makes me as bored as fluffy!H/G. Hahah, I think I've written a number of triangular-type H/D/G fics in my time, though all I can think of you meaning is this one (http://www.livejournal.com/users/reenka/192638.html) :-?

Man, I meant the initial bit where Myrtle was just telling them that Draco came over & was a sensitive boy. The whole sensitive!Draco thing has always made me laugh in fic, though I see how it was always canon (just non-verbalized).

When the whole bathroom scene -with Harry- happened, yeah, I was just... staring. Though it wasn't... like I wouldn't expect it of -Harry-, or Draco, per se, just-- yeah. Um. Wow. :D

it was completely the one part where I had to put down the book and calm my laughter.

That and the part where Seamus is forced to write "I am a wizard and not a baboon brandishing a wand". JKR is sometimes millions of times better than we are.

I totally laughed a number of times :> ...Though usually not at the puns, which either zoom right past me or make me groan. There were lots of cute little moments which made me giggle, anyway. Heheh, Crabbe & Goyle as 11 year-old girls >:D

And really, this book drove home to me that JKR is -often- millions of times better at we are, at plot-twists & characterizing her own characters, that is. Somehow, I feel we shouldn't really be surprised~:))

I don't like it, it just makes sense to me on a meta level, plus... I can't stop liking Ginny no matter what. Once I wrote her with Pansy in my long fic (prolly the only successful romance I'd ever written), that was set in stone. And I can see how she's good for Harry in an archetypal sense, though it wasn't written well in actual canon, which is what I said, pretty much. It's like, well, -most- things (even the Draco bits) weren't actually written that well and/or were predictable (to me). I only liked the Tom bit in the orphanage, the cave & the last confrontation of Dumbledore & Draco and the funeral as far as execution, so.

And I've always liked Harry & Snape's dynamic, not really in a sexual way. But even if I sexualize H/D, I don't necessarily like -them- in a sexual way either. Agape rules all.
