I got the book in my hot little hands last night, after meaning (and failing) to stand the glut of people at the B&N midnight book party. Me & [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten just went to the Virgin Records across Union Square and got it with no muss, no fuss (though wahhhh, no [livejournal.com profile] blacksatinrose). It was bloody awesome. No one was there except the cashiers with the stacks of books <3<3<3<3 We RULE.

I read the first 5 chapters before I went to sleep, and man, I love the book. So much. So much better than any fanfic in recent memory. Oh man oh man. I don't wanna rush it, though. I wanna enjoy and possibly even stretch it out. Yesh. I'm keeping a paper doodle/commentary thing I might post though :D

I dunno, I really don't feel like discussing it on lj yet. I don't want to share. :P The book is mine right now, and you know-- on some level I just don't want to know what anyone else thinks about it. At all. Other people's excitement is likely to just... put me off at the moment. I don't wanna be drawn into any sort of favoritism/theorizing. I just wanna -read- at the most comfortable possible pace, then think. Anyway... it's all good.

But.... I do wanna meet fandom people in NYC and chat in person after I'm done, and I know [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten does too, so-- preliminary poll before I post at [livejournal.com profile] hp_newyork sometime soon :>

Heee, exactly! I actually finished it this "morning", having gone blind at "he's gone" in the middle of the night, and finally started the new book. When I read Ootp first it was not that slow, and I was the only one who did not think it was too long. I guess because there were bits I wished she'd elaborated on, and this time I was wanting to get it done with and start the next book. Although the fight at the end is so excellently written that the pacing was necessary for the change of speed I guess.

Rowling doesn't write them fluffy or sympathetic in transparent ways, how she never has them do the easy, obvious thing to get them 'rewarded' 'cause she likes them, how she doesn't -cheat-.
Yes. Yes. Yes. That's why I felt relieved when I detached myself from the HP fandom a few months ago. I still get to hear poisonous words about her and am unable to forget the unending tirades how "badly" she is writing her characters *groan* ... I would so love to rant a bit but I never did in my LJ and think it's better for me to get back to the book.

BTW, the print is so obviously larger than in OotP, it would be funny ... if I hadn't just sat on my glasses.
