I got the book in my hot little hands last night, after meaning (and failing) to stand the glut of people at the B&N midnight book party. Me & [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten just went to the Virgin Records across Union Square and got it with no muss, no fuss (though wahhhh, no [livejournal.com profile] blacksatinrose). It was bloody awesome. No one was there except the cashiers with the stacks of books <3<3<3<3 We RULE.

I read the first 5 chapters before I went to sleep, and man, I love the book. So much. So much better than any fanfic in recent memory. Oh man oh man. I don't wanna rush it, though. I wanna enjoy and possibly even stretch it out. Yesh. I'm keeping a paper doodle/commentary thing I might post though :D

I dunno, I really don't feel like discussing it on lj yet. I don't want to share. :P The book is mine right now, and you know-- on some level I just don't want to know what anyone else thinks about it. At all. Other people's excitement is likely to just... put me off at the moment. I don't wanna be drawn into any sort of favoritism/theorizing. I just wanna -read- at the most comfortable possible pace, then think. Anyway... it's all good.

But.... I do wanna meet fandom people in NYC and chat in person after I'm done, and I know [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten does too, so-- preliminary poll before I post at [livejournal.com profile] hp_newyork sometime soon :>

I would like to TALK about it later on but have no-one close by.

Hehehe I feel grinch-like yet not alone >:D :D :D

...Well, I imagine there'll always be talk on lj to come back to ^^;;;

Might be because I only copy paste what you write ;P

It's not the same! At all. Everyone posts their stuff, only the more well-known people get read, it's not like TALKING. Meh.

Heheh, I guessed you meant it as a gesture of solidarity?? :-? hee. Um. ^^;;

...And yeah, I know, man. Lj & online discussion in general can be almost suffocating in an odd way, when you're feeling emotionally vulnerable or open at all. It doesn't have that inherent balance of in-person conversation where even if you say nothing, you can still participate via gesture & expression alone. But mebbe that means more for a quiet type like me :>

I did, I did!
It's worrying me that I can only nod these days. You should keep writing such short posts ;)
Although even those I read squinty eyed because all your (plural) comments are spoilery now, as reactions are telling.

Yes. Yes. *nod nod*
And really, I am starting to wonder if I even know how to speak anymore these days.
I can type well, though.

Meep. I know reactions are telling, but...
well...
I dunno what to do, since it feels silly to be like, "spoiler alert lj-cut for reaction" and then-- 'ooh, I love it' be the one thing under the cut, and. Um. :-?

*guilt*
I don't wanna have any spoilers about but I don't wanna go overboard, either, y'know?
Wah. It's 'cause I myself suspect reactions are spoilery, but it's the sort of thing everyone, even people who post spoilers under lj-cut, doesn't seem to cut. *is sheep*

*ggg* nah, you are fine. It's just what cruisedirector said: if a person posts "lj-cut text = gleefull spoiler" and you know that person's likes and dislikes, that's already the big spoiler as such. It's incredible how many people ranted at first and now cannot keep themselves from writing whole verdicts uncut. It's my own fault though, I could have read the book not the flist ;)

Reading never felt so lonely now that I know everyone is reading the same thing! 0.0

Hehe, if it helps any-- well, I'm not reading the book in a shippy/character-biased way, if that's what you mean. That's sort of one of the reasons I wanna avoid fandom at the moment. I don't wanna squee 'cause something good/bad happened to some particular character or whatever-- it's just that JKR's world is most definitely JKR's world. Duh. She explains stuff! She shows new stuff! She fills in her world and gives surprising twists to characters & events!

...I mean... that's what you'd expect & that's what I like :> So I like to think I'm not... that obvious, I suppose~:) Besides, I don't have a verdict yet anyway ;))

Heheh I think I'm too happily sequestered to feel lonely ^^; Just my book & me. No other copies in the world. Yep.
...Possibly it's that I haven't read my flist today :>

Yeah. Here's me nodding again. Here's me pointing to our short exchange from yesterday, how it is 100 percent Rowling. I do not even know what shippers are fearing or squeeing about. There is surprisingly little Sirius in OotP, and the characters I loathe and fear in fanon are less awful in canon.

I am so exhausted and tired. I am a fast reader, why does OotP not END! It is past 2 am and they are not even at the final scene of death. Woe. I must must finish this before keeling over, because I cannot wait another day to start HBP. Stupid me. Eyes, my poor eyes *ponders audio books*

Yesh! A lot less awful! A LOT! And it gets less awful all the time~:)) Though you -are- just rereading OoTp, right? Hee. I didn't bother; possibly I remember it well enough anyway, after all the thinking about it. But I'm definitely always surprised at how I like many more characters in canon than in fanon, and how that's kind of sad since those tend to be the ones more popular in fanon, ahaha. I keep thinking of how Rowling doesn't write them fluffy or sympathetic in transparent ways, how she never has them do the easy, obvious thing to get them 'rewarded' 'cause she likes them, how she doesn't -cheat-. God, the writerly/easy-fix cheating in fanfic is what I hate the most, and it's blessedly gone from the books. Ahhhhhhh.

OoTP is a slow, slow book, plodding & depressing in mood & verbose in actuality, but I'd enjoy the slow pace~:) It means you get to read longer & avoid bad fanfic longer, too :D :D

Heee, exactly! I actually finished it this "morning", having gone blind at "he's gone" in the middle of the night, and finally started the new book. When I read Ootp first it was not that slow, and I was the only one who did not think it was too long. I guess because there were bits I wished she'd elaborated on, and this time I was wanting to get it done with and start the next book. Although the fight at the end is so excellently written that the pacing was necessary for the change of speed I guess.

Rowling doesn't write them fluffy or sympathetic in transparent ways, how she never has them do the easy, obvious thing to get them 'rewarded' 'cause she likes them, how she doesn't -cheat-.
Yes. Yes. Yes. That's why I felt relieved when I detached myself from the HP fandom a few months ago. I still get to hear poisonous words about her and am unable to forget the unending tirades how "badly" she is writing her characters *groan* ... I would so love to rant a bit but I never did in my LJ and think it's better for me to get back to the book.

BTW, the print is so obviously larger than in OotP, it would be funny ... if I hadn't just sat on my glasses.

Come back and talk to me and Aja about Draco when you are ready? :-?

I hope you enjoy it thoroughly! I plan to re-read soon. And totally kept a commentary/doodle section, too. ♥.

Hehe, most definitely! :D :D
Though I hope there's more to the book than Draco~:)) Though the pic of him at 6th chapter (as far as I got) is hot :9 :9 My Harry-muse drooled. A lot :D And I doddled him, too :)) ♥

Of course there is! And I completely understand the feeling of wanting to take your time and revel in it and just. But I so want to talk to you about it, especially after talking to Aja today. OH GOSH.

*is patient* In the meantime, your Draco doodle! Are you going to scan it? :)) Please?

I'm skeered of being prejudiced, I guess. I love Draco to pieces, but I'm not... I just love the book. I think people -just- focusing on Draco would... really bug me right now 'cause I'm totally thinking in many different directions, just not all of them omg-squee-like.

But! I wanna talk to you too :D :D :D
And! I scanned the doodled, 'cause I can refuse you nothing >:D

There is so much to talk about! I always forget how enormous new canon is. I am equally squee-y over things like Mollywobbles as everything else. :)) I cannot help it. I will not spoil you beyond where you are, though! But also, there are things to worry about and wonder about and just - not necessarily love but. I don't know. New canon. :D

Doodle = best thing ever. :-*
