This land is my land. And it is yours. And it is ours.

The important thing is to believe that when it's most difficult, and when people try to make you feel like you're a stranger where you are-- that's when you say, I live here with you.

Take it as you will, but today I woke up and thought, I love this country. Not just the people I agree with-- or the states I wouldn't mind living in-- the point is, I love this land and its people especially when they're torn apart and distrustful of each other and lost. Because home is not where it's cozy or warm or safe-- home is where the heart is, and this is my heart, even if it hurts. Especially when it hurts.

It is hard to say it today, but that's why I'm saying it.

It's not that I don't care who's in office, because I did feel kind of sick-- but mostly numb. I've been so numb for so long. But I know this much-- this is never going to be over until we do stand together, for real. For real.

So. This land is my land, and here I make my stand. I live here with you, fellow Americans. I live here with you. Please don't leave. We all need each other, as hokey as that sounds. We do.

I love America, too. Really despise George W., but four years is never as long as it seems right after an election.

:) I think people are really upset, which reminds me, kind of, of the feeling right after 9/11-- I think we're all upset, possibly even the people who "won"-- because none of us really won when so many people are resentful and bitter. I have the weirdest urge to comfort the whole country :>

Well said.

To all the people who want to leave: I know that the fact that the Republicans control everything seems daunting, but there is no reason why we have to let them run roughshod over everything. Our voices do deserve to be heard and can be heard, that's what our local representatives are for.

I'm kind of amused by the idea of making it clear to people we're not going away just because Kerry lost.:-)

Hahaha yeah, I'm kinda upset/weirded out that I even feel like I have to say this, but have you seen fandom today??? Like, five people (that I've seen on a quick skim) were like, "I'm moving to New Zealand". And like... WHY NEW ZEALAND??? I don't even get that :))

I'm guessing you're staying then :> :>

One word: Hobbits.

Hey, I just started writing for Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends. I have to stay!

So really, all these HP fans are Tolkien fans in disguise, is that what you're saying? Me, I'd move there 'cause of Xena. I want to run around the hillside next to the ocean and cry my warrior-woman cry, dude. You think that's really it?? YOU JUST CAN'T SCREAM AS LOUD AS YOU REALLY WANT IN THIS COUNTRY :D :D

That's a really intriguing title, actually. Some sort of gathering of (lost or homeless?) imaginary friends-- seems almost obvious in a way. And then they could decide to succeed and form their own Union and an Imaginary Land is born :D

Yes! You can SCREAM AS LOUD AS YOU WANT!!! And the government funds zombie movies!

And it's very pretty.

Foster's is great you should check it out--it's on Cartoon Network Fridays at 7pm. :-)

I'm pretty sure Peter Jackson's first movie had a big NEW ZEALAND FILM COMMISSION approval stamp--I love it!

What I meant was, maybe one day we'll get the US gov't to fund "Return of the Living Dead: the uber-deluxe RED DAWN OF FEAR edition" :>

Hey hey! New Zealand is lovely! >:D

...but we don't have cartoon network, see.

...well we do, but you have to pay, and stuff.

But seriously, so much love and support to you guys over there right now. For every post about despair I see another one about someone vowing to have hope and make things better for the country, and, so much respect.

I definitely want to -see- New Zealand :D I knew that when I first saw Xena & all those rolling hills & cliffs (that's my favorite sort of thing next to marshes). Though the only other thing I know besides "pretty hills & cliffs" is "there are also sheep" :>

You have no idea how much I needed to hear this right now, seriously. I was just talking to a friend of mine who has a horribly pessimistic view of America for the next four years and I just...can’t see it that way. I’m an optimist, yes, but not so much that it clouds my view of reality (at least not most of the time, haha) - and I just feel so blessed to live here, honestly. All right, so I don’t think the right person got elected into office. But this country is fair and the people are good, and...and. I’m hoping for a unified country and changes and advances. I’m hoping for good things.

It all comes down to perspective, really. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about my country, our country. I was also chatting today to a friend who’s from Belfast and she was telling me about the Troubles and the horrible political division and strife there, that I hadn’t really known much about till I met her. And hearing stories like that, and like yours, just makes me stop and think: I have it so good here. We have it so good here. Even though some people might not really think so. (And it’s not even that people who live in countries where the political climate is different couldn’t have good lives - some do and some don’t - it’s just that I take so much about America for granted, and I do it so easily.)

And it’s like you said: this is my home, this is my heart. It’s like...like a traveler who sees their country out the window of the plane after a long time away and they just sigh and say ‘home’. Because that’s what this place is to me, even if I don’t agree with everything that goes on here. No matter where I end up living throughout my life, this is where I’m from, and I’m proud of that.

I’m going to shut up now before I burst into song. :)
