reenkait seems like my aching fire to rec, rec, rec, and rec yet more has gone down-- ok so mostly the number of fics i've yet left unexplored has gone down. the Trilogy is beckoning me and smirking, oh, how it's smirking. it'll kill me, i know it. it'll inspire me to write my draco/ginny though, maybe (*laughs madly*). yes, that evil fic that shall not be named. (well, isn't named at the moment, but hey. maybe That Which Shall Not Be Named, is a good intriguing sort of title, anyway).

ishuca's updated `plague of legends', so up i hold the reccing banner once again. there are a number of good fics. a number. well. they're all evilly in progress, and evilly slowly updated, but we shall not talk about that, shall we. anyway, but it's strange how every fic pushes a different button. like it pulls at a slightly different piece of my heart-- it has its own unique resonance within me. i sort of like that. PoL is probably the closest, out of everything i've read, to the sort of harry/draco epic i'd write myself, if i could/had anything to say. although i'd probably go into harry more, and make draco a bit more of a loser. i like pathetic!draco (ie, the draco of comedies rather than tragedies) too much to ever lose my admittedly short leash on him.
the feel of it-- the emotional bitter-sourness, simmering at the back of one's throat like good strong coffee in the morning-- is really addictive and satisfying. in a way, my only quibble is the length (wah! only 5 pages this chapter! *cries*). i adore all the games draco's playing and how we can't quite see through them immediately the way you do in most other draco-centric fics. but. harry... it's not exactly dark!harry, and yet he's being too easily manipulated, methinks. i mean, i know he keeps looking at malfoy ("to the very soul" hahaha, poor drakey)-- but it seems like draco's right and he -is- getting a bit too much out of harry using sex alone. hm. not that harry's a snivelling gooey mess, because he isn't. but he's being a bit... hormonal, isn' t he? i mean, sexy as that is (and lemme tell you, it's VERY SEXY. ahem.)
it's almost like harry's doing the `losing side' thing and putting up with malfoy out of equal parts lust and the need/want to "get to the bottom of malfoy". ahem. inquisitive!harry, indeed. harry -really- wants to know the why of malfoy. and of course if he didn't, where would our lovely h/d be coming from. hmm, almost inevitable, but a bit-- too good to be true, maybe. i don't know. i adore their interactions in this, the powerplays and the new flavor of teasing. although sometimes i feel draco's being a bit too mastermind-like and a bit too-- tolerant, in a weird way, or maybe just thoughtful-- and it's equally weird to see a corresponding thoughtfulness on harry.
"I see. . . I see hate, and anger, and lust, and resentment. And I see something else, something that I'm sure no one else sees."
and then of course draco jumps straight to saying he doesn't love him. which is almost like he knows something he shouldn't-- and maybe he does. but it still seems a bit too meta-aware, or something like that.
in a way, the metaness of this is both part of its beauty and its weakness. but nevermind, i thoroughly enjoyed this and every other chapter, and it's only that i'm slightly disturbed by the turn things are taking towards more overt mind-games, though i always felt it coming, i still have trouble accepting harry taking part in that unless he -really- has no choice, as in `the losing side', but there, you get a lot of set-up and arguments for why harry would be going along with any of it. not to say i find this harry unbelievable. he seems innocent in an utterly believable way, and yet curious, as he should be.
and hey, the draco pic from the main page is... to die for. so i made icons from it, of course. take if you want.

and as far as bits and pieces of stuff i'd enjoyed lately, if anyone cares, there's ``playing with fire" byglasgowgirl, which just kind of has a good obsessed-with-malfoy!harry, who is a rare creature (um, done remotely well). but in the end, it's got to just make sense within the fic, and this one pulls that off.
``adore through darkness" has a promising beginning, with all sorts of hints and the amusing scenario where ron and hermione not only know that draco likes harry, but are trying to help sort things out (harry's forgotten something important, it seems). gah, how i loff new plot-twists. and surreal situations, apparently. and good writing, even more apparently.
on-the-prowl!harry by hibiscus, in the `guns and handcuffs' cookie jar was too cute. hee. meeping!malfoy. i can see it. yes. i mean, it's not like malfoy would ever admit to anything unless he was put under duress ^^;;
a cookie from a new h/d story bymarysiak, harry potter and the new order, has got my attention in quite the delightful way. it seems new, somehow. maybe because the tickling angle hasn't been touched upon yet (hee! i don't see why not, really). i mean, you're sleepy, out-of-it, you get hysterical, and start tickle-torturing someone. see, all those fight-scenes-- you didn't need them. who knew? hee.
lastly,ethrosdemon rocks my world with her new harry/draco-- especially the latest bit, house-elf mayhem and all. biscuits. laundry-lovin'!malfoy. to die for. see, once again, there's no reason why they have to "get to know each other better" on the quidditch pitch or in the potions classroom or in the halls, bumping into each other. no. hee! the kitchens. oh, i'll never forget the kitchens now. ha, and neither will i forget a draco who's seeming to channel dumbledore just the tiniest bit. *dies* of course, this means i have to write harry/ron/hermione, but we all make sacrifices. somehow, maybe i'll involve the whole gryffindor house in a big huge orgy by the end. with flobberworms. and tentacle-sex. yes.

unfortunately, that double edged sword is all the fault of my plot. :scowls:
it's hard to keep the characters true to themselves as well as true to the perceptions the readers have of them. geh.
hum. and i never really saw the possible similarities with TLS!harry and PoL!harry. but you might be right. it's something to think about, and i do admit that in some ways harry is one of my weakest defined characters. i'll be dealing with that before continuing with chapter 13- which is mostly harry's POV.
only five pages?! what? but but but... it's :checks: _12_ pages in word! narrrr!

the Chaos bit was... well, it had to be there, as you surmised. i considered making it a lowercase word, but the innuendo/clue would be much more subtle and become lost in the metaphors, which there are many. so it was a bit strong. i actually made the decision on capitalization right before i posted it, having wibbled for weeks. :sighs:
and yeah. the whole moorcock thing... has influenced me. run in fear! bwahahahahahahah!
i still keep having these *evil* little urges to make it a crossover (and i hate those things, but now i understand the draw, dammit). it's just... harry *so* could be argued as an incarnation of the Eternal Champion.
but i won't. because that would compromise the integrity of my fic and stuff. and because i have *self-restraint*. :chants it to herself:

my philosophy on sex/sexual situations is this: i suck at them. so better to not get too in detail and find some nice random descriptors and i'll be fine. perhaps occassionally explicit descriptors :thinks of spit-slick and wonders if that was clear:, but hey.
and you're right, this chapter is drenched in sex. on the Great Numbered List of Doom (tm), chapter nine gets the following blurb: they have sex.

it's funny, though. i just write this thing as it comes. i didn't notice the meta until you pointed it out. most likely, as the plot continues, a lot of the fic will be my perceptions of the plot coming out unconsciously.
