~~wherein i wax pervy
Sep. 18th, 2002 07:01 pmever since the whole coincidence of the chihuahua/taco-bell-dog imagery coming from different directions in the fandom (i don't remember who said what anymore, but i know it's the fault of
vanityfair,
ztrin and/or
epicyclical one way or the other, but then, their mind-control abilities were always obvious ^_^;;), i've had the urge to start my entries, or just things i write in general with, "yo quiero, taco bell!" ><;;
gahd. what's next??
er. anyway.
marysiak updated her `circles of influence' fic (the sequel to the semi-known `the marks we bear'). a lot of great fics have been updated-- and ip is scaring me, but in a good way. still, i'll need some cocoa before i can read it, i think. or ice-cream. yes...! i'll go get a bunch of ice-cream and print out all of ip and ......*has epicurean visions coming out of her ears*
the reason i bring up that particular update is because well-- i'd decided, two or three months later now, that it wasn't such a good fic, really, even though i was really into it, back in the beginning when i wasn't too sure about the characterizations of h & d in my head. but. i read the last few chapters (& that's unusual for me, 'cause i tend to forget the plot/direction of a fic like, two weeks later, enough to warrant re-reading, because there's just so damn many h/d fics now & they're not all that original). and i realize i was right, even though the characterizations are... iffy... it "does" it for me, still.
and why, you may wonder.
both are basketcases, depressive, whiny, touchy-feely, insecure, and desperate for each other to the point of insanely high melodrama. except harry is wibbling 'cause he's afraid being draco's boyfriend makes him a freak. *coughs embarrassedly*
well, i'll tell you.
i'll tell you why it's a goodfic and not a badfic, ok. i'll tell you.
feel free not to tell me if you don't respect me anymore.
ahem. it's because of the sex, dammit.
yes.
it's bloody HOT. it is..!
maybe not the most objective, good critique method, but it works for me. i'd even liked some harry/snape once upon a time, because again, those fics get -hot-. yesh they dooo, mah pretties.
most slash realizes that hotness & sexual tension are important, even if your characters -don't- hate each other in any way shape or form. so, without personal tension, what do you have?? yes! it's sexual tension, babay, and oh...my....gahd... but marysia's fics have it. yum.
her and phatgirl (oh.... phatgirl.... *cries* that was some beautiful smut, right there, even if there wasn't enough of it) and
dahlia_777 and antenora (oh... my... frikkin... gahd) and aja (hehehee, that's sort of funny actually). but as i was saying, unlike the other slash/yaoi fandoms, hp seems to not go in for the Shagging Is The Holy Grail type thing as much. and that's good, it is. no, really. *coughs* really.
not that i'm saying `circles of influence' is about shagging-as-grail, mind you. it's got over-the-top emotional melodrama (yes, i'm a sucker. at least i don't watch soaps and read romance novels. anymore. ok? yes. ok.) it's even got some sort of plot, not that i care much. *coughs again*
anyway, what i'm saying is...
why can't there be more smut??! i mean. why does all the smut get written for other fandoms, even though the writers intersect? i'm probably reading the wrong stories aren't i. *long-suffering sigh* yea, i probably am... i blame all the juvenile-crush fics and the deathfics in this fandom. *sticks out tongue*
and even when you do get smut, it's like, more of a tension, emotional/physical battling, where you get all this unresolved lust going on. undeveloped, sporadic, violent lust. and don't get me wrong, i love that. er. so what am i saying? i guess i'm saying i love this fandom and not "there should be more smut". still, old habits die hard, and i still adore the good-old sex-crazed!harry fic. what? i do. he's hot, even if he -is- a pathetic over-weepy loser ><;;
in other news, i actually have something else to be excited about, besides smutfics (*gasp*! *faint*!) um.... i'm taking a `visual journalling" class, and i adore the concept and i'm going to have so. much. fun. oh yes. funfunfun. not as much as naked-h/d fun would entail, but, you know, nothing is that much fun ;) kidding, kidding, jeez. i'm not some pervy wizard-fancier or anything o_0
~~
P.S.~~ hey, if anyone's curious, i did write a long-ass response to
thamiris' latest query re: conscious/unconscious fanon/canon template mixing while writing fanfic (how's -that- for over-metaing a meta concept. heh.)
um. also, this drabblet almost inspired some ginny-love on my part. i have Sinned.
and dude. i wish we talked more meta 'round these parts. *sniffs*
oh meta, how i lurve thee.....

Date: 2002-09-19 12:29 am (UTC)i didn't mean it quite like that, but i know what you mean about it being hot~:) even though not at all...er.... explicitly sexual as far as i remember.
i adore ip. i just do. that was before i was too judgemental about h/d fics (or at all judgmental, aside from writing quality), and oh. my. god, her descriptions of how it feels to love obsessively & completely are spot-on. for me, anyway. i'm an insane romantic, though.
i definitely wouldn't love ip if it wasn't intense, but it's not hot-intense like marysia's or phatgirl's love-scenes. i mean. everything, every emotional fiber of their beings, is buzzed when ip!harry&draco come together. no other fic does it the same level of passion, without resorting to hatred or snark or misunderstanding, and just going on pure emotional power of unrequited love.
i think of it as ip's emotional quotient.
it may be intellectually too much, or too little, but emotionally, it's the perfect drug. to me, anyway.
and now, off to read the last chap...! FINALLY :D
