i'm reading ``i see by my outfit" by peter beagle right now (it's an autobiographical-type thing). it's looking at me, much more seductively than jkr, right now. i don't want to even imagine jkr's books [or self] looking at me seductively. *shudders* um. i'm amazed that he's an actual human being (and so are all the other authors. wait. does that mean that shakespeare was a... a... human being??! (who sang silly songs, and forgot to bathe sometimes, and liked pepper on his eggs, and said bad words to his mother, and laughed too loudly, and slept in until 4pm, and lied to his friends, and cheated on his girlfriend, and said stupid things, and dreamed insane dreams, and liked the smell of may grass, and didn't take enough walks in the rain, etc etc and so on and so forth.) aaaack! omg. that is so, so sad. my GOD people. he was, and we are, and yet, he wrote that, and we... what have we to say for ourselves...?? hm. i dunno. i hate that idea that actually, we only do the best we can, and so did he, and that is that, and that's the way the cookie crumbles, and amazing things only happen so often, when the moon is right.

the universe really is kind of weird, isn't it? i mean. people sort of accept that yes, their astrological profile -does- describe them. & while that doesn't really fit in with any known rational profile of the universe, and while they think of themselves as rational people, that's ok. all sorts of rational, sane people, believe all sorts of impossible things (sometimes as many as 6 before breakfast, indeed). and while believing impossible things is a Good Thing (yeay), i mean. shouldn't you be aware of what follies you're indulging in, at least? well, not just aware, but care, i guess. i'm one of those people that is amazed that yes, astrological profiling works. why??! i want-- need-- to know why. not the predict-tomorrow's-gossip sort of working, but more, ``who am i" sort of working (i.e., `i am a libra, you are a libra, and we are similar in a number of things, and similar in ways in which we're different from non-libras'. i was just thinking... how dissimilar are those two things, anyway? isn't saying who you are also a sort of prediction, if it's not a personal-knowledge-based thing? and why is it easier to predict people but not events?? what's even up with that whole prediction business? i mean, assuming the future is yet unwritten (as i believe) and completely up in the air, so to speak. why are there patterns, even event patterns (i.e., you can see how some things are inevitable, if you analyze their history & root causes), and yet, and yet you can't really say what the results will be, and only generalize, mostly? and yet, personal horoscopes get pretty specific about personality traits, and stay pretty accurate (in my personal experience). anyway. i just wish someone looked into this.
