omg~! *laughs hysterically*
antihpslash is the funniest thing i've seen in ages.... oh...god... ooo i'm getting the tingles :> aww, this is great. tears of joy and laughter are coming to my eyes ;p
er now, that wasn't sarcasm, why do you ask? it's just... oh god... the people sounding so stupid. it's so yummie and hilarious! i mean ok, on another day it'd piss me off...but now i'm just going, ``my gahd, that's funny shite". er. yeah.
this entry by
marvolo is possibly even funnier (but possibly less evil, heheheh).
....all right, fine i admit it. if i think about it, the notion that i can find someone intelligent and interesting, and yet they have something against slash... or even hp slash in particular... i dunno. it bothers me. is it so intrinsic to me to like slash? after all, i wasn't particularly into it before half a year ago. yeah, seems like forever, but it hasn't been. ahhhh, good ole gundam wing (*grins*). was that my first slash fandom?? i -think- so. i'm not 100% sure anymore, since i was picking up and dropping fandoms at a rapid-fire rate at that point. it was after my `fruits basket' episode...or was it before? well i -do- know it was after my 'hana yori dango' episode. not that anyone cares ;p but yeah. slash (*shock*) wasn't always a part of my life. so. in fact i used to think hp in general was junky (writing-wise, i loved ze movie). even fanfic... i don't think i've read it that much, before i got desperate for more hana yori dango. i mean, i always loved fanfic-novels, things licensed and mass-marketed, but still basically fanfic for star wars and elfquest and star trek, etc. i liked it more than the original, in each case, actually *snerk*. plus there's my long-time affair with shared-world anthologies and series. and of course, my love-affair with comics (multi-author, often enough, of course, though actually i tend to be loyal to just one of the authors-- usually 'cause the others change vital aspects of world and characterization, in not-so-good ways. books of magic, anyone??! yeah.) --plus, i would argue tv-shows (and yah, i'm a recovering tv-holic) are fanficcy by nature, usually written by a whole buncha people. so yeah, it was always obvious that i'm a fanficcer in training. slash-fic, isn't so obvious. i loved male-friendship stories ever since i could remember (kirk/spock, anyone? and holmes/watson, actually, heh). and then i found the wonder and the glory that is heero and duo, having wild monkey sex. ;p and there was no going back. except i seem to need a 'ship to really get into either slash or het, really. i don't read gen much-- ok at all. and i don't just read "to read". usually it's 'cause i'm 'shipping my lil heart out. weird. (i -used- to just read 'cause i was into the world. that was awhile ago. they were good writers, too.)
but. yeah. i was never antislash. or even anti-fanfic (that's also a weird thing). especially across media (fic for comics or movies), it seems perfectly natural. book-based, is iffy (in principle). if the the original book is great, usually, the fic'll be worse, & that's sucky. the exception to this is, of course, the shared-world fics i love, like for `the borderlands' and the `wild cards' series. if the author (say, neil gaiman) picks the writers himself, for a fanfic anthology (he's so, so horribly, evilly goddamn COOL, it really frikkin' frightens me), then it's cool too. but anyway, where was i....
anti-slashers, or anti-hp-slashers, or whatever, just, bother me. because like. you shouldn't be "anti" anything unless you really really mean it. and you know what's wrong and you have reasons that'd stand up to scrutiny. like, you can't say "hp slash fic is bad" unless you've read a whole bunch. so it's kind of closed-minded. and that's good enough to be wary of liking a person. so yeah. closed-minded=icky. don't grow up to be closed-minded, kids! eat your wheaties~! yeah. ;P and anyway. they didn't have to read it, did they. no one was tainting their precious little potterverse against their will. it's called the "back button", jeez. who's forcing fanfic of any sort down anyone's throat, anyway? yah, thought so.

And I've thought even that some were well-written. But that doesn't change the fact that I don't like it when I pick up one of the real books, and then I get to thinking about Harry and Draco dropping their wands and getting it on."
... i just don't get that. i must be closed-minded ;p and in fact, i know i do have a prejudice. a) i don't lovelove the hp books, & liking slashfic actually thus improves my reading experience; b) there isn't a het relationship i'm rooting for, present, to be spoiled by a slashy one [the way i don't like angel/spike-- but still i don't reallyreally dislike angel/spike, it just squicks me, that's all]; c) i think harry/draco are adorable, and with their pants down, even moreso hehehe (*slaps her dirty mind*); d) erm.... gayboi is betterboi~! (*laughs evil fangirl laugh, rhetoric exhausted* ;p) although, as a final note, i have to question this whole "children's books are pure and unsullied by romance and slashiness especially" thing. it's kind of weird, actually. the romance/grown-upness part. whereas all good children's literature deals with adult themes in ways accessible on many levels, to many ages. `alice in wonderland', anyone? heh. there's a nifty little treatise on the nature of reality and childhood itself. and `fairy-tales', those exemplars of ``children's lit" of old, are chock-full of romance and blood and gore and betrayal and evil, etc etc. even hp, that wonder of 20th century children's lit (*sarcasm*) has voldemort [evil] and harry's parents [sacrifice] and grown-up societal critique [muggledom], etc etc. what's -with- these so called "intelligent" people thinking children's lit is, essentially, worthless for all but the most stupid of children? jeez. but, that's plebes for ya, heh.
P.S. ...as far as anti-fanficness goes... usually spouted by bookwormy-academic-type people. erm. yeah, because it "ruins" the "intended world". ahem. *laughs madly*. yeah. ok that would work, possibly maybe if a) the original world was wonderful and amazingly great; b) the fanfic-world was horribly off-the-wall ooc and sucky and badbadbad. which is like... not necessary at all. even if often true ;p so. i know i can't really impact those people's opinions and that's okie. i personally luvluv (good) fanfic and i adore the two-way interaction and new relationship you can have with text. it's sort of... new and exciting. talking back to the world, to the author. isn't it fun??! of course it is, silly! yeah! *grins* sorta like the web-based hyperlinks created new and fun ways to communicate and be connected, fanfic also explores new ways to interact and connect with an old, old medium. in fact, stories are originally meant to be shared and changed, and communally-created. and of course, my first love was precisely those sort of stories (fairy-tales, myths, legends). i adore messing with stories, personally, and think it has a lot to do with our collective dream-lands being verdant and healthy. just in case anyone cared. that was reena's gushy rant, "in praise of fanfic". amen ;)

hee~!:)

draco: muwahahahaha~! you will never know, Potter!
harry: you're evil, evil damn you..!
draco: yeah. whatcha gonna do 'bout it, big boy?
harry: *levels Wand of Doom* didn't think i was gonna do it, didya, didya??
draco: let's see them. your mad Skillz. lay it on me. *smirks*

P.P.S. btw... it's funny... i used to go for months without much in the storytelling dept... and now it's like, two days and i haven't made much progress in my "epic" (*snerk*), and i'm like, i suuuuuuucckkk, heh. funny. am i a writer now? *laughs* my story is bitching at me (`why aren't you writing me, you biatch? do you think i've got all day?? what's with you?? aaaaack'). er. yah.

Date: 2002-08-12 07:59 pm (UTC)and yeah i'm just your typical fantasy/comics/anime fan... well, sort of. i'm not into the "popular" stuff so much (excepting sandman)... yah. i feel i've kind of hit that "typicalness" threshold when i got into gundam wing and hp (the horror! the horror!)
i'm actually a fan more of the cat series than the snow queen, but yeah, i love 'er in general. she's one of the not-so-many wicked female sci-fi writers (then there's ursula leguin, nancy kress, connie willis, and.... and... see it gets kinda hard, heh. sherri tepper, but she doesn't really count because i only liked "beauty" of hers, and that wasn't too sf-like, really).
so yeah. thankees muchly for signing, i do so live for feedback~~
