reenkaIs it just me or is fanfiction not, you know, one's intellectual property??...?? I mean, yeaaaaah, plagiarism = bad, fine [given you could prove that's what it was, which... in this case was inconclusive], but... jeez. There's only far you could go in the righteous indignation over it before you just have to realize you don't own it the way you do your stereo or original manuscript or whatever. It's just impolite to take bits of people's fanfics & use them, not illegal. Man.
(And of course I'm not saying 'all fanfic is plagiarism' or whatever, it's just all so extremist and chest-thumpy and I'm actually all for using lots of personal effort to write stuff, but I still feel you need objective, claimable rights-- which would involve, y'know, due process-- to feel self-righteous to a certain degree rather than just etiquette guidelines, but. You just can't go saying 'you violated an UNWRITTEN FANDOM RULE! DIE!' because... uh, yeah, no one has to follow fandom rules. Because while what we do isn't illegal like plagiarism, it's still unofficial.)
Why no logic [ie, no one even commented to say 'hey, wait up there pardner'] :( Why :( Brain go ouchie :( And of course, yeah, I realize that it's not -about- logic at all & is about people's knee-jerky indignation at any perceived social violations... but it's that precise sort of witch-hunt that makes me all GRR anyway. Even if the person -had- plagiarized, that's no excuse to immediately turn against them 100% if you're claiming to be reasonable nice people. Especially with comments like 'she's been raising eyebrows for awhile now' or something like that, probably not least because, *gasp!* she wrote OOC misspelled porn. I mean, yeah, hi, glass houses.
I mean, it's perfectly valid to be upset if you're plagiarized [even though I have been and I personally wasn't-- upset, that is] & you could get that person to take their fic down from a TOS'd/moderated site like FA, but it's not like... um... not like you've got rights, really. Ahem. As far as writing fanfiction goes... I mean... getting all self-righteous... I dunno, fandom, I dunno :/ I can [sort of] see getting outraged at plagiarizing from non-fanfic sources [even though that should be fine with noting them], but. Phrasing something 'a bit too closely' to what someone else wrote in ANOTHER PIECE OF H/D PORN? Uh. Yeah, no ground to stand on there, man. Yeah, hi. Perspective, have we met? :/
...Also, AHAHAHAH my reaction to RubyMoth & Devilfancy leaving is really 'well, yeah, I guess you should be glad you're moving on to Bigger and Better Things& I should be glad I won't waste time compulsively reading your OOC H/D porn'... ^^;;;;

If my fic were plagiarised, I'd probably froth about it as much as I do when someone cuts me off on the road (which is... uh... a lot. :">). But intellectual property? Hah. I'll never understand it, though. Why bother writing if you have to lift somebody else's lines/passages before you feel that it's good/passable/whatevs? I don't get it. :">
Wait, was rubymoth plagiarised too? Or did she plagiarise? I've never read her fic (one I did come across warned for spanking, and I'm not a fan so I didn't read it); I just remember she was Very Upset that I was doing the H/D reviews.

I still am not convinced this -was- plagiarism 'cause the person doesn't seem the manipulative-liar type, being frankly too stupid & upfront about just liking to write porn -.-;;;;; I don't think most people being all indignant even bother to think v. hard before making up their minds & denouncing mightily, which is what irks me. It's not like this is MsScribe trying to get popular through... well, whatever :)) It's definitely rude, but just the stink people raise about it makes me wonder if they understand what 'fanfiction' means :)) When someone rewrote my Ron/Ginny fic as Naruto, I just cracked up ['cause yeah, wtf? why??... it's kinda funny, though].
Nah, rubymoth was apparently just coincidentally deciding to leave fandom today too 'cause it's Just Not Fun Anymore & the wank from July is weighing on her heart. Uh. Y'know, that one where she was the one wanking & you were the one being sane :)) I found out about this from comments on Devilfancy's lj, where someone was moaning about the double great loss fandom suffered :D :D :D :D *coughs*

I don't understand why people were all up in arms about devilfancy's porn... (I saw like four posts in recent weeks where people were going "omg what grammar what what?") I mean, the headers pretty much told you everything you needed to know. Just goes to show that there are times when "don't like, don't read" can actually be applied sensibly. XD XD
I think I'm saying he's a he because I've seen other people refer to him as such? It would certainly explain the fangirling-despite-inability-to-write, so I thought it must've been true. Because no female author in this fandom will ever get away with "I break rules of grammar for artistic reasons!"

Not that this wouldn't have gardered him more fangirls, but Devilfancy said that he was trying to get the porn out to the people as fast as humanly possible-- so, y'know, being in a hurry & also admitting to not caring 'cause 'this is just a v. minor hobby'. I can sort of dig that kind of devil-may-care attitude a lot more if he didn't leave in a huff when one of us overly-serious fuckers pissed him off :>
