Hahah now that I actually read your post..., lkjafslkjaklj I posted this before I read anyone's, 'cause... well, I wanted to be happy for a bit, haha. This is like, my reaction to fandom posts and interviews and just any discussions these days. "I probably shouldn't read this, it'll just turn out to be bad..." hahahaha

Anyway I didn't think she made it requited, and besides Dumbledore/Grindelwald is like, super-fucked up (and brief) anyway, so... man. It would never occur to me to think of it as canon, any more than it'd occur to me to think of S/R as canon (without fandom). So I was shocked! Shocked! hahaha! I tend to read books-- y'know, normal fantasy books-- and be all happy if there's a gay character, 'cause like, there's a lot more of them now than when I was a teenager, growing up-- even in 90s books, definitely in 80s books. I remember when reading The Sandman, I was like, 'wow, cool, gay/lesbian characters', and such. And anytime I read these books, at the back of my mind I compare it to HP and my fandom, where y'know, we'd never encountered any reference and it's always gotta be 'those delusional slashers' and like... it's just one more thing that made me feel lame for liking HP in the first place, like couldn't I have picked a cooler fandom, y'know? haha.

I dunno, I know it's lame & could've been miles better and it could've been something where she's on the level with actual normal fantasy writers these days, but... my lame little fandom. My stupid little books. Awwwwww, y'know? heheheh And I just love tragic unrequited love anyway, hahah. I feel like we got a pat on the head, collectively, but still. I am lame enough to be happy and not ask for more. I think 'not asking for more' is the secret for enjoying JKR's books in the first place, ahahahaha.

JKR: My truthful answer to you... I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] ... Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extend, but he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair... [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, "Dumbledore's gay!" [laughter] "If I'd known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!"

Haha what the hell is up with that? I don't know if I can take that last bit seriously. Mostly it boggles my mind that some people seem to purposefully *try* to take things badly. They say nothing will make everyone happy & I guess that's true, but... it seems like people are getting inventive. Why would you... why would people be so insanely eager to take offense at squee-worthy events? I mean... I don't think there's any way to really say this that isn't wanky. People write Serious Business posts about how we should all stop being too critical and that's wanky too, but jeez. Sometimes people ARE way, waaaaay too critical. o_0 That kind of reaction pings me in particular, I guess, 'cause I'm a bit embarrassed for squeeing too much & losing meta respectability or something. But to hell with being respectable, anyway, if I can't enjoy the things that are enjoyable. It really drives me up the wall that a good number of these critical posts all start with 'it's cool that he's gay and all, but...', like, they're dismissing the initial reaction of pleasure/yeayness as unimportant or less important than their oh-so-deep analysis. I get bitter just thinking about it, and this is just reading my mostly-harmless flist. Which is why I avoid HP wank about anything I care about :))

I had that reaction even to the metafandom people who're like 'this is fanservice'(!!??!!!) because she didn't outright state it in canon. I just don't even get people sometimes, seriously.
