I'm looking at this gallery of um, 'realistic gay men' artist Michael Breyette, and even though... I mean, even though it's not the extreme of Tom of Finland by any means (...btw, I find the Rob Clarke uber!man animation especially disturbing hilarious in a WTF sort of way). Still.... Still, it's enough to make me wonder about whether I'm really (half) straight because duuuuuude, but the 'classic male form', all abs and hair and manliness, omigod, it does absolutely nothing for me. Wow.

Actually, looking at that animation, I mean, I know it's supposed to be funny, but I find myself thinking that actually most non-gay men are like this also. Penis/muscle/space/homosocial obsession, anyone? Holy cow. In this sense, I think that most 'normal' men are equally obsessed with each other whether they're straight or gay, it's just more obviously sexual with gay men, I swear. Jeez. This cartoon especially is cracking me up 'cause I'm like HAHAHAH I BET STRAIGHT MEN HAVE DREAMS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME, AHAHAHAHAHAH. Um. -.-

Also, this makes me think of the inevitable (future) gay culture in space, y'know, where you just bet there'll probably be more men than women, right, just like in any military/adventure operation. Wow. All you'd have to do is disinhibit them, and boom!

Just. Looking at aaaall the muscles everywhere on both sites, I can only think that this is what they like. As in, men are as body-image obsessed as women are, if not moreso. *__* (And this also makes me appreciate even more why all my main fandoms are either cartoons or books, 'cause duuude, 'real men' are just. Well. Ack. *backs away slowly*)

Also: this icon of Spock makes everything better. Yes. And Lana Manckir's evil!smiling!DE!Snape is just, um, too cute. See, this is my type'a guy :D :D :D

Australia was founded on a gender ratio of 10:1 male:female.

We're a big gay country alright.

His art is inspired by pron pics.... I can recognise at least two whose sources have also been used as the basis for some wonderful fan art in various fandoms...

It's such a small world! :) :)

Hehe, I can imagine! I was actually thinking 'ooh, I should've used this as reference for my recent lesbian pr0n pic' -.-;; If nothing else it's educational :> :> But I've yet to see a gay artist whose art -doesn't- look like porn. I really would like to see!! :D

this reminds me of reading some of those collections of best gay erotica books at barnes & noble and thinking, this is such shit. this is total shit. it's badly-written and it's not even HOT. but then i say, well, they're not writing it for you so shut up. it's okay. and besides, you have your own little (vast) arena of hot gaity on the internet that is more suited to your tastes and is (in your opinion) better-written.

and so it always kind of annoys me when there are some gay men bitching about slash and saying "that's not what it's really like," because while some of their complaints are valid it's also kind of like. well. okay, this really was not written for you.

i forget where i'm going with this.

Ooooh, pretty icon!! *__* Here, have a similar springy (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/1566135/) one :D :D :D

...And, um, yeah! This sort of disturbs me though, to think men & women are genuinely this different ^^;; Damn ^^;; This raises a whole 'nother subject in my head, as to whether self-identified transsexuals (um... guys who think they're girls but like guys??) would like gay porn or slash more :)) (I'm always looking for any excuse to undermine people's self-image, 'tis sad.)

I think these days especially, 'gay' has become an identity thing that goes way beyond 'I'm a guy who likes to fuck guys'. Otherwise there wouldn't be a 'culture', right? It strikes me as a bit artificial, or more precisely, the bits I don't artificial (well, all culture is artificial on some level, but still) I feel are common to men in general (like the promiscuity). MEN. *makes raspberry* :>

"real gay men" always make me laugh. almost like "real men"

what do the skinny, pale one do? like, have fake sex? how's that?

Well, I was mostly talking about their fantasies of themselves and what 'real' constitutes even to most 'skinny and pale' men. The artist could've been skinny and pale, but so what?

i was mostly talking about the concept of "real gay men" as it exists in the mind of certain gay men and also certain whipped women.

*giggles* Man, that site is very... educational xD; Thanks for the link. ^^ Anyway, what I wanted to say was - I don't think the level of stereotypic manliness you want in your men has much to do with your sexuality. Example: on Yaoi-gallery (yaoi.y-gallery.net), which is positively overrun by pictures of pale&skinny men, about 70% of the artists are female, and most of them seem to be straight.
And, by the way, all the pale-and-skinny bishounen there are drawn by the (probably straight) women and all the muscled men are drawn by the (probably gay) men. Which makes me think that straight "manly" men are definitely cultivating the wrong image if they want to appeal to women... ^^;;
So, sorry for the random comment. ^^; I don't even remember why I decided to stop by your journal. ^^;; Your ramblings are all very interesting, though. ^^

Heh, yeah-- it's that sort of reasoning that I was going with here:
Looking at aaaall the muscles everywhere on both sites, I can only
think that
this is what they like.
(...meaning, just like in many ways women wear make up to please themselves & each other, so may men exercise/build-up muscle for themselves & their peers-- that is, competition-- as well). I think comparing one's body to others of the same gender is, perhaps, inherently a bit queer. I'm not sure. But yeah.

No need to be sorry for random comments. I love random and also comments, so together it works very well :>
