...Okay, that was random.

Also, I'm convinced it's my destiny to always see the hothot movies a week or two after everyone else, when I've forgotten who'd posted the reviews and no one cares about mine anymore, but that's all right! I accept my fate! And so on. Also, I think my innate distaste for mass-scale squeeing has firmly reasserted itself. In other words, I'm too much of a grump to really participate in the festivities anyway. Er.

And: I've come to terms with the fact that I will -never- share a fandom other than HP with anyone on my flist ever again. Ha. Man, I've only ever been seduced by another fandom actually -by- somebody other than myself once, and that was [livejournal.com profile] lasultrix and Highlander. But I'd never felt the urge to like-- uh, read meta or meet people or anything, which goes for everything else I like (mostly yaoi mangas no one's ever heard of, 'cause everyone's into top-5 most famous mangas/anime of -course-. Yes, I am VERY BITTER, about this among other things-- have you noticed?? No?) Well, there's Gundam Wing, but who in the world wants to actually -talk- about Gundam Wing??! o_0 Well, me, but. Er o_0 Not that much, anyway.

I seem to have some sort of missing cross-fandom gene or something. As in, I can easily -read- other fandoms, but not -join- them. Heck, I can barely handle -one- fandom in terms of participation, let alone several. I'm not even sure how does one 'join'-- I mean, besides friending new people & saying things, but, uh-- what happens when you're antisocial and disinterested in anything but good new fanfic? Alas; a lurker in need is a lurker indeed (or... something). Although I suppose I could friend people -for- new fanfic-- that's what I initially did with HP, but... uh... I have no excuse. I guess I'm not -that- interested.

In other news, I just realized: Darth Sidious = insidious without the 'in'; Darth Vader = invader without the 'in'. Haha! Clearly. I always thought the Vader was a play on 'vater' (ie, German for 'father'), but who knows??! WHO KNOWS INDEED!

EDIT - DINGDINGDING!!1 [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie wins hands-down for my favorite answer: he wants to be more than he is, and doesn't know he is more than he wants to be. <333333333333333333333333 SO MUCH LOVE. *cries*

Nah, thank you for your response-- I forgot the whole 'interesting character, hmmm' category existed! I am so silly, and also apparently trapped in the more outre areas of fandom :>

man, I'm not even in fandom. just, sometimes I kind of find myself stuck there at 3am in the morning or something. clearly I have issues.
Sorry my initial comment was rather abrupt/rude; I was very sleep deprived and shocked by my unexpected Appearance.
au revoir

Why? This isn't just because I didn't like Books of Magic, is it?

Hahaha, of course not, but-- I just noticed-- you only read -Neil's- miniseries, which I never fangirled in the first place. I only really worship John Ney Reiber's actual 70-or-so issue series, which is -brilliant-, I -swear-. Especially before Tim went to America around halfway through, but even then, it's great and involving and Tim rocks -so- much more hardcore than Harry, and you know how I feel about Harry, ahaha. The miniseries doesn't do it for me at all, Tim-wise or story-wise-- it just sets things up nicely. The story doesn't get going until JNR introduces Molly and-- well, just the way he writes Tim, nothing can compare. But I have to admit the new cover (http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1563890828/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-8232497-6779316#reader-link) rocks my socks, like-- hardcore. Most of the art in the mini I found hit-or-miss, kinda-- and the last image of Tim in his huge glasses actually scarred me for life, it seems, ahahah.

Anyway, here's (http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0F0MTKWWOOTV80OTZM4PXW3BZS) the first issue, though I don't actually consider myself in a fandom for every series/comic/book I like a lot, or I'd be in five zillion fandoms or something, y'know? Heh. I was actually referring to the SGA craze going around, which I have absolutely no interest in ^^;;;

I dunno. I still can't get into it. It's like I hit 17 and the whole "Other Fairy Kingdom" oldschool fantasy stuff just didn't do it for me anymore. Maybe I'd read too much. Maybe I grew out of the archetypes. Whatever it was, *shrugs* it just doesn't do it for me, unless it's done exceptionally well with some sort of really cynical or anti-whatever twist to it (which is why Hellblazer = teh win). Sorry, just not my flavour.

I suspect you're judging it too quickly, because while there's -some- elements of Faery in the current/first storyline, the comic is by no means -about- Faery or high 'other world' fantasy at all. Tim himself is pretty cynical and well, real, for lack of a better word, and the majority of the early issues take place in Tim's London. In general, it's urban fantasy, with side-trips to Faery at first mostly to set things up, but not with the purpose of -taking- Tim anywhere permanently. He takes little side-trips to Hell and Faery, I guess, but mostly it's pretty grungy, either in London or later, America. I -would- say that even though the series has a clear plot, the heart of it is really the characters-- the first issue introduces Tim, I guess, but things don't actually take off till he meets Molly.... heh.

But! I meant it when I said you didn't -have- to like it or anything, really.

Well, I read up to Issue 12 of the Gaiman ones, and they were, well, blah. I dunno. It's not just the Faery thing. It's the predictability of them. Even with John Constantine in the story, it just wasn't very innovative.

Heh, you read the first issue by JNR, right? Does it really much resemble the theme/style of Neil's miniseries? The whole point of the Reiber series is much different-- it's basically a coming of age story for Tim, and all sorts of sad and funny and ridiculous things happen around him and change him, force him to change. I just meant that the two series are really-- quite different. I don't think any character that gets as much development as Tim does throughout the long series can come off as 'archetypal' or stereotypical in the end. I mean, he may -look- like Harry, but is a much more interesting/complex character. Plus, he's the Opener-- he can open doors to worlds and like, create things-- he opens the 'door' between magic and reality, which makes him the most powerful magician alive and gives him all sorts of inner struggle and such-- but I wouldn't call him an angsty character, per se.

I mean, Constantine does show up a few times, but mostly this is just Tim, Molly, his father, his new stepmother and stepbrother, his school, his powers, the Incubus down the street, his mother's machinations, his attempts not to blow up reality, etcetc. He doesn't really have a 'guide' most of the time, Constantine or otherwise. He, uh... screws up a lot and he's his own worst enemy, quite literally. But... well, he really grows on you. Or well, me :>

I'm pretty fandom-monogamous too, despite a quick toe-poke into reading Batman Begins fics this summer and a love of HP crossovers. Despite the glimmers of occasional bitchiness against and sometimes from within the HP fandom, I think it's just the community of it that I adore so.

*sigh* I feel so... odd, mostly 'cause I do read other fics in non-HP and barely read HP anymore, and yet... well, here's where my friends are. Even if I just grow progressively more bitchy myself with age~:))

You see, what Sister M said made me cry, so that's that for any hope of me saying 'ah, I love him because...'
Though mostly, of course, it's because he's one of the most interesting characters I've ever read about.

Hahah, it didn't occur to me to put 'interesting' up there since I think I was assuming it and it didn't seem descriptive enough of his personality or something-- like, but -what's- interesting, that was sort of my question :>

Though I still want your blurb!! I mean, imagine if your and Sister M's powers combine!!!11!1 :D :D :D
...though, well, I know what you mean, because omg ♥!!1
