btw, has anyone noticed how like, virtually no one (that i've seen) among fanfic writers in this fandom seems to find magic fun and yippy-yeay exciting? is it just me? are we all really old? what? (well, except for the draco trilogy, but it doesn't count for my purposes, unless it's slash, eheheheh).
    i mean, ok, i know, dark themes, love, lust, incest, doom, war, death, guilt, regret, angst, sex, blahblahblabbetyblah. but seriously, these aren't the reasons one -usually- has for reading children's books. can't make an argument for harry potter, since everyone and their dead uncle has read them (well, er... won't incriminate myself there, ahem). i read young adult fantasy, and it ain't because of the war/death/guilt/angst/sex thing going on, ahahahah. i think magic is yeay!whee!sparkly!nifty!yeayness.

     well, the books are kind of darkish-and-yet-satirical adventures and blahblah-the-dark-lord-is-coming-blah. you know, that's why i was all, "i'm never reading this stuff", partly anyway (aside from my initial inability to read jkr's style without hacking, coughing and running away). i just don't like the whole, Dark Lord shtick. pure-evil villains. i just don't find them interesting-- i don't care enough to hate them, they just seem-- bleh. juvenile in that -bad- way.
    did i just call ultimate!evil juvenile? why yes i did. moreover, it's just not fun.

on the other hand, magic is fun. being a wizard is fun. the fact that it's a parody in a lot of ways, of course leeches some fun from it (ie, stupid learn-by-rote spells, stupid cauldrons, stupid boring classes, blah-blah-it's-just-like-the-real-world blah). but, i mean, think of it! werewolves! gryffins! unicorns! cups-turning-into-elephants! scary professors that want to eat. you. alive.! danger! intrigue! true love! dark hate! bad. -bad-. jokes.(!)
   all that, and mostly, it's just never any fun. magic does two things in the fanfic i've read: mess you up and propel plot (well, propel plot in that way where it's just a plot-device, not in that way where it's something to enjoy on its own merits). naturally, i read slash. there must be oodles (i'm sure) of magic-ful adventure!gen out there. who cares, though. i still want my harry-draco-kissing, here.
