reccing, again. i'm all about sticking to the battle plan. well, no, not really, not at all. but i feel bad if i don't, because then i feel useless, because, honestly, it takes days and weeks and... well... months between fics sometimes, and um, i feel weird rambling on and on about just-- stuff. because i really should be doing "something else", but if i rec then at least-- at least-- it seems almost useful? like i'm cataloging. cataloging is always useful.

which segues me into [livejournal.com profile] holographis's percy/oliver fic, and it was grand, and percy-like, and rainy, and *sigh* sweet, in that ministry-drone repressive percy way. hee. usually i like intense high drama and emotion and fairy tales, but i do appreciate low-key romance too, i do. no, really.
her harry/ron/hermione takes my breath away, as well as any objections i ever had to this sort of fic. apparently, i'm eminently seducible. i like this hermione-- the way she's common-sensical and yet nonsensical, romantic and yet prudent & motherly, there and yet not. i still think ron wouldn't go along with this and harry's too uptight, but sometimes things just happen, and war and close quarters and loss can change everything, and the drive to keep someone in this world, with you, can overcome a lot. so.
and then there's [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon and -her- h/h/r fic, which is-- also very strangely realistic and heart-wrenching and sad without really being angsty. which is what i like. it still doesn't -explain- the situation, but sometimes that's ok. i've been doing that more and more with my fics (it's second nature to me, usually, but with fanfic i feel i need to set up and justify major deviation from canon, even in ficlets). but when a fic is totally whole within itself, and the emotions feel real, and the characters act believably and the writer seems to believe in them too, it just-- works, anyway.

harry/draco is an insane sort of pairing. you have to keep up the faith, the passion, suspend your disbelief and the sheer ridiculousness of such things. you have to maintain your tolerance for melodrama and angst and over-the-top posturing and meanness. it's a fight-through-the-brambles-to-get-to-the-good-sex sort of thing.
narcissa malfoy's `even better raw' isn't like that. just harmless sexy fun. that's why i loff h/d fluff so much. if not for the fluff, i'd have burned out on this pairing, probably, months ago. with every pairing, there is light-hearted fics and writers, of course, but sometimes it's not enough, and it's not as enjoyable to read, or it's too silly, or -something-. i think heero/duo fics were like that. too silly. in the star wars fandom there was virtually no fluff (that i remember), which is interesting. in the voyager tom/harry fics (hahaha it might interest you to know that i still get flashes of harry kim, reading slash about a character named `harry', heheheh)-- i can't imagine believable angst-- i've read angst in that pairing, and it was -very- over-the-top. although it had lots of sex, which is good.
i was going to say something or other, possibly, about confusing-- or not confusing-- the art and the artist. blah blah i can be so pretentious sometimes. the major question i'd have for narcissa & her fic, would be whether she could've written it if she didn't like sushi, hahaha :D

i suppose i could rec [livejournal.com profile] penelope_z's `carnivorous house' but really, some people you should just read everything by, or one would sound like a broken record (and read this, and this, oh and also this, and that's good too, ohh! and that, that's a good one...). it's [livejournal.com profile] tier_luren's draco, definitely, but i just don't have the words to describe its atmosphere and the delicacy of its effect, or maybe i'd just go on and on. *sigh* the soft angles & the lingering ghosts & the decay....

the ``harry" from the recent `jeopardy' doesn't look any more like harry than tom welling does, to me. which is to say-- um-- happy buff all-american dudes aren't it, to me. i want frail-wiry-geeky!harry. yes. *giggles*
and, yum for original fantasy art & breaking out of the harry/draco enchanted circle. *sigh* [livejournal.com profile] tier_luren makes me remember the good old days of surfing the net for something -other- than more h/d smut :D

um, that is your spam for tonite. expect ficlet(s) soon(ish), though.
