i see what you mean-- about just enjoying the possibilities. usually, if i -like- a story, or see its validity & possibility, i sort of get influenced by it. well, i think that's how `ships work, anyway-- you read a story-- like say, ip-- and based on the characterization in it, even if you'd never necessarily considered it before, you now see those characters together in your own head, and if you like it (and usually that's the case), you seek out more fics to sustain that newly-formed fictional relationship. it's possible it could work in reverse, too, isn't it? you read a fic, let it influence you, and then you old views shift except you don't like it, and instead of now `shipping some new ship you now -stop- shipping some old ship.
