yeah, that's why i haven't read it: i often check out amazon.com's reviews & a lot of people were underwhelmed by it, it seems-- though i'm still stoked he won a hugo for it, or for anything.
it still surprises me that new random people find me & comment-- it's sort of a strange, but pleasant feeling, to just be pretty much mumbling to yourself on the street, and have people stop by and answer you, and go on their way, nothing doing. i appreciate it, of course. takes Just The Right Entry, i guess.
& i can definitely empathize with browsing livejournal in an anthropological research sort of way-- it's still got that early-net all-too-personal quirky, cliquey sensibility, that's been swamped by commercialism and, apparently, self-consciousness of a sort.
