There aren't -words- for how I envy people able to write in lots and lots of different fandoms (sometimes). They tend to be unfairly good, too :/ (By which I mean, my Buffy & GW fics were -horrid-, even if my Peter Pan one was okay, the other was insane... my strategy being 'I don't feel comfortable with canon, let's go crazy-AU instead!' ...So basically I shall never understand why I started writing HP like a mofo with v. v. little canon-- basically barely even a great grasp on fanon-- and why I can never write Star Trek if you paid me to, even if I've seen/read tons of canon. *sigh*)
Aaanyway. I was reading
shrift's most recent Highlander fic, 'Velocity of Longing', being the title whore that I clearly am-- and it was just such a breath of fresh air!! Ahhh, I missed Methos :(
So. Because I do want to read other fandoms even if I can't write them, I'd like people to pleeeeease rec fandoms/pairings to me (not fics, precisely, just pairings!). But! Um... I thought it'd be more of an Educated Rec if you knew my pairing opinions across fandoms to base your rec on.
Basically, -I'm- the one who always sees patterns in my shipping preferences, but for once I thought I'd make a list of just the raw data of how I feel without premade conclusions as to what I'd like to see.
Mostly, this is an excuse to make a huge list of what I think of a bunch of pairings-- favorites and not-so-favorites-- HP and beyond. Mmm, lists. Mmmm, procrastination. *rolls eyes at self* Also, I've ranked them anywhere from 3 stars to empty stars (which is negative), hehe. I've covered HP, Gundam Wing, Buffy, Highlander, Star Trek, Star Wars, X-Files, The OC, X-Men & others ^^;;;;
- Harry Potter -

Harry/Draco - obviously, I mean. rivalry and the world is ending and need-to-fuck-NOW and broom-closets, snark + also haughty bitchy blond boys are LOVE. plus? Harry snapping and going all macho = love. and yes, blah-reconsidering-prejudices-and-beliefs-and-love-wins-the-day-blah :P

Sirius/Remus - it's that whole opposites-attract thing and the whole range of angst and snark and adolescent awkwardness and dry+bookish+needy vs. brash+sly+oblivious. I dunno, they sort of crawled into my heart and curled up like... dundundun!! two puppies, when I wasn't looking. *siiigh*

Ron/Hermione - I just really like the tension! And Ron is so cute! And they're both so circling-around-each-other cats-and-dogs and it's just adorable, okay?

Harry/Snape - will sometimes read for good Snape, snarky+angry Harry, angry/vicious sex and Snape being all 'Mr Potter... I need to see you in DETENTION!!'

James/Lily - I really like this-- in theory. In theory, it's just great. I love James. Did I mention I LOVE JAMES? my ickle straight James. ♥. He's sort of like Ron, except not really, haha. (...and I also really like the idea of one-sided Snape/Lily, cliched as it is, just 'cause... well, I think it's a great pairing if not for James and like, the entire HP series plot, hahah...ha.)

McGonagall/Riddle, Hagrid/Riddle, Dumbledore/Riddle, Ginny/Riddle - I like (the idea of) really odd pairings with Tom and Gryffindors. Toommmmmm. Young Tom & all his issues are yum; I really am rather bored with Voldy & his Death Eaters.

Ginny/Pansy, Ginny/Luna - I dunno, I think it's hot. I have no excuse :( I like femmeslash!Ginny more than any other kind except dark!Ginny (with Harry or Draco). Also, Ginny/Pansy just -works- in my head but I'm afraid of reading fic about them 'cause I feel like it could ruin it 'cause it's so dependent on it being -because- of Harry for Ginny, at least partly.

Ginny/Ron - I will always have a soft spot for this. I haven't read much-- nearly any!-- fic, but I'll still always love it 'cause of Catja.
Ginny/Draco, Hermione/Draco - you would have to be BRILLIANT, but I like the idea of this 'cause they could totally kick his ass but he'd be a snarky bitch & endear himself eventually. it's sort of an old-fashioned 40s movie dynamic. I SAID SORT OF!
Sirius/Snape, Snape/Remus, James/Sirius, James/Snape, James/Lucius - bearable if you're Really Really Really good, because I like the tension & angst but you have to remember I don't sexualize Snape much and my inner James is straight. Sorry Sirius, hahahaha. This makes for cute one-sided unrequited stuff, though.
Luna/Zacharias, Zacharias/Theo - good in theory, plus it's the ONLY Luna pairing I actually like. sexualizing Luna so carelessly makes me sad :/
GRR, ARGH NO:
Harry/Hermione - spork my eyes out with a SPOON, why don't you. Unless you're brilliant and/or either Sara or Aspen, in which case I trust you not to make it The Ultimate Platonic Lurve Of All Time In Which Ron Sucks and Harry Swallows.
Remus/Lily, Sirius/Lily - in some ways, I hate this more than H/Hr 'cause it's more of an insult to both the characters, I think. Sirius would simply never do that to James, I mean SERIOUSLY, okay (though their dynamic is vaguely cute and actually reminiscent of James/Lily if James was more 'pshaw' towards her)? And all the fics where Remus has a crush on Lily or vice versa-- that's just... :/ Can you be any more Remus-biased without just giving up and making Remus the most popular Marauder, Harry's -true- godfather and Minister of Magic, as well as beautiful and uber-sexy? Meh.
Harry/Luna, Harry/Neville - doable-- I've done them!-- but leaves me feeling like a barely-wet fish out of water.
Snape/Draco - SAVE ME FROM THE GREAT & PERFECT SLYTHERIN LOVE :( Seriously, I wouldn't have this many issues if it wasn't constantly compared to Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape as being superior because they're both Slytherins and can understand each other better, blah-blah-comradecakes. *chokes* (...so I pretty much can't stand most inter-Slytherin pairings or comrade pairings in the Potterverse, Harry/Ron included, mostly.)
Draco/Neville, Draco/Ron - I really don't like Neville with... people, but Draco... Draco... that actually makes me shudder a little. It's like... icky, like a trainwreck of awkwardness. Draco/Ron just makes me jealous and frustrated :/
Harry/Lucius - well, unless you mean, 'Harry murders Lucius messily and slowly'... it makes me gag.
~~
- Gundam Wing -

Heero/Duo - looooove. the broody & analytical/poker-faced one (with all sorts of antisocial psycho tendencies, yaye!) in love with the outgoing, snarky, volatile (yet also needy + psycho in different ways) one. aaaahhh, both friendship/partnership, saving the world PLUS psychosis. *happy*
Wufei/Treize - wouldn't have thought of it, but I just like poking a hot poker up Wufei's butt. I'd like Wufei/Duo if Duo wasn't TAKEN TAKEN TAKEN, okay.
Trowa/Quatre - booooring, but I don't mind, exactly, it's just... I haven't read any, nor do I want to. :/ In contrast:
Trowa/Heero, Trowa/Duo - this actually seriously freaks me out, probably because it messes with ze OTP, but then I don't get like this with the idea of Duo/Zechs or Duo/Wufei. Trowa with anyone but Quatre just... interests me more but also makes no sense. which is weird, but there you go.
Heero/Relena - no, I don't hate Relena (quite), she just really annoys me, and H/R just... just... makes me run screaming, 'cause while I'm okay with pining, stalkerish pursuing in canon while in PINKMOBILE? NOT ON!
~~
- Smallville -

Clark/Lex - okay, the whole arch-nemeses thing?? I totally dig. Plus Lex can be soo yummily written, and I love getting into the uber-archetypal hero vs. villain stuff and how they feed off one another and sustain and envy one another, etc. Lex's longing to have/possess/be Clark? Yum.
Clark/Lois [mostly comic canon] - it's cute, okay? :(
~~
- Highlander -

Duncan/Methos - I don't know why I love them so, so I don't know if I can explain, except to say old-snarky-and-poker-faced ambiguous characters turn my crank! especially when paired with somewhat naive, idealistic yet aggressive hero-types who constantly try their patience and get themselves into messes. ♥. AHHHH METHOS. <3 *sigh*
~~
- Fruits Basket -

Kyou/Tohru - I adore this pairing. It's got that hopelessness and angst and neediness (on his part-- she totally redeems him and he knows it!), and the way they're comfortable together and bring out the best in each other and he's all hot and brash and bruised and she's not cold but soft and smooth and sweet like good lemonade. Ahhh, LOVE.

Yuki/Kyou, Yuki/Kyou/Tohru - aaahhh, literally cats & mice!! <33333 you know they want each other! :P
Yuki/Tohru - this seriously depresses me. It's just sort of stereotypical and bland and I like Yuki much more with a guy. ANY GUY.
~~
- Prince of Tennis -

Oishi/Eiji - they're just so cute and married and cute and the only reason I don't find them boring is basically Eiji, who's just... well, he's a kitten, it's impossible not to be amused watching him play with his favorite toy and pout and be all earnest and dorky. hee.

Tezuka/Fuji - I think Fuji is so cute and disturbing and vaguely scary that I feel he needs to stalk someone scarily, and who better than the imperturbable Tezuka? Muwahahah!

Inui/Kaidoh - hee! opposites-attract strikes once again! wheeee! it's so cuuuute, what with Kaidoh being blustery & blushy and Inui being all 'must investigate possible approaches; experimentation key to success!!' hehehe :D
Ryoma/Tezuka - seems boring? but I wouldn't say I -hate- it. Just... not my thing, but I can see what others find in it... I just... eh.
~~
- Hana Yori Dango -

Tsukasa/Tsukushi - ahhh, it's the dumb-yet-macho-yet-sensitive guy with the kick-ass-and-take-no-prisoners girl! I love how he needs her, I love how she rejects him and gives 'im what's coming to 'im, and I love how he's totally and completely devoted to the point of complete idiocy, jealousy & possibly insanity. *siiigh* Oh and yes, I love how he's a complete bastard who changes, maybe not entirely for her sake.
~~
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer -

Buffy/Spike - I just adore them, but wouldn't know where to start. it's my whole hero vs. villain thing, plus the whole redemption thing, plus loving omg-SPIKE and snark and angry sex and needing to see one's dark reflection and did I mention Spike? and how he can't resist Buffy and neither can resist poking the other? ...I dunno. I just see mythic stuff there.

Warren/Andrew - aahhh, mah BOYZ. ♥. this is so painful and fucked up and wrong, and poor Andrew :( MESSED UP GEEK LURVE FOREVAH! (not that I really read many fics, but I love them anyway, plus the vids were awesome.)

Buffy/Faith - this really works in my head, in theory. I love the vids, anyway. Um. It could be great? the obvious reflection & light/dark thing and I love Faith, so.
Willow/Xander - I sort of like it, in theory-- more than I like Willow/Tara or Willow/Spike, anyway (I think). I just like the whole swept-under-the-carpetness of it, if that makes sense.
Xander/Spike - not totally against it-- snarky, cute, banterish-- but it's a bit too shallow, almost. don't see a lot of deep potential in it, issues, etc.
Buffy/Angel - *screams* NOT THE PERFECT ETERNAL LOVE, NOOOOOOOooo :( Also, Angel's such a bastard, and not in a cute way like Spike is :/ I love Spike's devotion to the same extent I couldn't forgive Angel for leaving for any reason once things got nasty. I dunno. :/ Too much melodrama :/
Spike/Angel - this actually creeps me out, what with the 'fathering' and the power-differentials and the history.
Spike/Drusilla - ack, can't stand Drusilla most of the time, and Spike was just so whipped and that whole dark-partnership thing? So not my bag.
~~
- Queer As Folk -

Brian/Justin - opposites attract! plus-- BRIAN LOVE! plus... just all the issues they have, the ways they challenge one another, the way they overcome their age-gap (except do they??) and the way there's just so much lust and tension and energy between them. yum. sort of in between angst and fluff and porn, with lots of room for psychological growth on both sides and challenges, etc.

Ted/Emmett - I really don't know why, but I really liked their relationship storyline! Ted's so messed up & they're so different that the opposites-attract thing clicks in and Ted's dependence on Emmett's strength/optimism appealed to me.
Brian/Michael - argh, I have issues with Michael (mostly of the too-conventional/too-tame/too-boring variety). Also, it's just... no chemistry, and such a long history of Michael being obvious & Brian being disinterested. It's just. Noooo.
~~
- The OC -

Seth/Ryan - they are so cute! and so geeky! AND SETH OMG SETH! Is the most adorable thing ever, what with the cuteness and the way they play off each other and dance around and bond and. Just. Cute.
~~
- The X-Men movieverse -

Pyro/Iceman - opposites not only attract, they sizzle! pretty obvious, but still angsty and pretty and Pyro is all nihilistic & mercenary yet hiding his vulnerabilities and hopes to Iceman's battered preppy optimism, which intrigues me.
Professor X/Magneto - *facepalm* umm... issues? in the past. the QUEER past. I mean, complex friendships/rivalries, how could I resist?
~~
- Star Wars -

Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon - this is one of those rather surprising pairings that I can't believe I go for, but I dooo. There's just... all this subtlety and their relationship is so unique that it transcends the teacher/student thing, but in a totally different way than say, Harry/Snape, which does it with misplaced immature antagonism. Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon does it with respect, understanding, true bonding and balance. It's like, the uber-Jedi pairing :D And then there's all the angst! And how -do- we get them to -stop- being Jedis long enough to shag like bunnies? That is the question!!

Han/Leia - yes, I'm a sucker for the rogue/princess archetype, and this princess happens to be kick-ass! Padme, yes, you may take lessons from your majorly way-more-awesome daughter. Plus. Han!! *swoon*
Anakin/Obi-Wan - noooooooooo!! watch my brain break messily :/ I can see how it could be interesting & have issues, but it's just wrong. I mean, the OTP is one factor, but the other is that I don't find Anakin interesting and this just murders my idea of who Obi-Wan is.
Anakin/Padme - okay, really it's that I can't stand that whiny, delusional, poor angry little lost boy-- in theory he's okay, but in the movies? SPORK ME WITH A SPOON.
~~
- Star Trek, old & new -

Jim/Spock - I could so totally write a treatise on this pairing, but I won't. Suffice it to say, I adore them both as characters, think their friendship is amazing and inspiring, find their banter and partnership fun to watch, love the deeper issues this raises with Spock & his identity & self-control, love the depth and love and adventure and heartbreak all around. Mmm, meaty. Sex optional! (and freaks me out a bit anyway.)

Q/Picard - ahhh, the smell of cosmos-wide issues in the morning. mmm. Also, Q! Q is lovable as hell, Picard is interesting and complex and their relationship is so layered and oddly competitive and antagonistic and yet they want to impress and understand each other. There are just soooo many possibilities here, honestly. I mean, delightfully wicked omnipotent beings don't fall in love with smart and honorable starship captains every day, right?

Paris/Kim - for some reason I used to read quite a bit of this. It's your stereotypical opposites-attract, and Paris was such a cute wastrel before he got all boring on the show & settled down and lost his bite :/

Riker/Troi - I just ship them from the show 'cause they're so cute and telepathic/empathic!love is my kink, plus there's all that dancing-around-each-other and devotion and waiting and earnestness and I like Troi a lot. heh.
Picard/Beverly Crusher - I just think it's cute! I shipped it on the show, anyway.
Spock/McCoy - I think it's like... people come up with this sort of thing just to hurt my feelings :/
~~
- X-Files -

Mulder/Scully - yes, this is one of the few couples I shipped before I knew of fandom, without it being actual canon or obviously pre-canon (like pre-slash, except... not). Yeah, I'm predictable-- the opposites-attract thing, the complementary-partners (actually being full partners! go Scully!) thing, and me really liking both characters a lot, plus snark! and chemistry. I've even tried to read a few fics back in the day when I read much het, hahah.
Mulder/Krycek - you'd -think- I'd love it 'cause of the antagonism and tension and issues-- but you'd be wrong! :P I really can't stand this pairing 'cause I don't see Mulder ever going for it and it just makes me sad and I don't actually like Krycek, so there!
~~
Okay-- if you've read all that, I'm impressed!
...And also frightened. But... you probably are at least a little enlightened about... something or other. Me personally-- I want dinner. Thass all (finally!) and good night. :>
Aaanyway. I was reading

SPORK ME WITH A SPOON.~~

Spock/McCoy - I think it's like... people come up with this sort of thing just to hurt my feelings :/~~

:P I really can't stand this pairing 'cause I don't see Mulder ever going for it and it just makes me sad and I don't actually like Krycek, so there!~~
Okay-- if you've read all that, I'm impressed!
...And also frightened. But... you probably are at least a little enlightened about... something or other. Me personally-- I want dinner. Thass all (finally!) and good night. :>
