oh god, this car can and WILL have my ass yet. oh god. oh god. i can't believe myself. i'm just not that kinda girl! oh god. that -car-, oh, god, that -car-! i mean, i've never felt that certain tingle before, but now... but -now-! ohhhhh baby, you WILL be mine, oh yes you will my sugarplum....oh yes....ferrari... see the "rawr" in ferrari? it's there for a reason. oh yes.
in other "news" i also like this gal's Endless illustrations. yum. of course, how sucky can one be (uh... i don't wanna know) with sandman art. it's usually made by people who like sandman, and of course, we are superior human beings ;)
eucatastrophe, for anyone who's wondering (and none of you are, even reading this! so...)-- is tolkien's term. the link provides slides(!) from the `on fairy-tales essay' as well as others, very enlightening. well, for me. this is the basic, bone-deep reason why i'm not into the whole "badguy mystique", not truly. badass, hell yeah, badguy? no. that's because the badguy has within him all the makings of tragedy, is in fact a tragic character-type. whereas, what i look for in fantasy-- as well as reality, actually-- is... well... answers. hope. wonder. not a statement but a question. Can we be good? What is good? Does love prevail? Can we be brave even if we are afraid? What are heroes? What does destiny mean? Can we beat this destiny? Those are questions, and fairytales-- well, those give us the dreams of answers.
``The magic Tolkien admired was magic devoid of sleight-of-hand fakery, mystery uncontaminated by cloak-and-dagger sensationalism, and miracle unconfined to orthodox religion. The purpose of this magic is to exercise the sense of wonder and to fulfill wish. Magic is the process which produces eucatastrophe.
Eucatastrophe is Tolkien’s word for the anti-catastrophic “turn” (strophe in Greek) that characterizes fairy stories. This turning occurs when imminent evil is unexpectedly averted and great good succeeds. To Tolkien, tragedy was the purest form of drama, while eucatastrophe, the antithesis of tragedy, was the purest form of fairy story.” ~~Ruth S. Noel, “The Mythology of Middle Earth”
