i think i'm starting to be disturbed-- well-- slightly-- because the adjective that is coming to mind almost every time to describe my reaction to an in-character malfoy is "adorable". this is just wrong, isn't it? i shouldn't think it's all cutesy-wootsy, should i??
for instance, take the sentence, ``[livejournal.com profile] potterstinks is adorable." while admittedly true, it has a certain... er... weird ring to it, doesn't it? *nods* maybe it's just that if you have an in-character semi-sympathetic draco, what automatically ensues is humor, and humorous characters are naturally adorable, if you add a certain personal attachment to them in the first place. sometimes i wonder whether whoever plays him writes fanfic. i can't think of anyone who a) writes such a great draco; b) is likely to role-play. my tentative conclusion is that maybe they don't write slash, whoever they are. i am woefully undereducated when it comes to non-slash hp. not that i mind. it's not like i'm admitting to not having read tolstoy or whatever. in fact, it should be equally embarrassing, from a certain point of view, to have read -or- not read slash, as long as it's fanfic. being picky in one's fanfic probably brings you closer to those "normal" people who're too picky to read fanfic in the first place. or something. er. right. anyway [livejournal.com profile] potterstinks is adorable and i really didn't need this many words to say so, did i ><;;

and now, he's even more adorable now that tom's got acne, ahahahah. oh my -lord-, plot bunny..!! draco-with-acne~! the humor-fic possibilities..! i am a GENIUS!! *dies*

EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] lasultrix is, of course, entirely correct. it's easily us knowing he's in denial that's having a large role to play for why he's adorable (aside from him just being funny, in this particular case). i mean-- if we -didn't- know draco is going to eventually "fall"-- and if we -believed- him, and believed he was as bad as he pretends to be-- if we thought he -meant- it when he said potter stinks, for example-- i dunno. things would shift, wouldn't they. then he's just a bastard. a funny bastard is always cute, but that's because the funniness makes one doubt the bastard part, somewhat. we can't -really- believe that a smooth, charming character "means it". oh, he may -think- he means it, but it'll be fun seeing him when he figures out there's a flaw in his perfect construction.

'course, yes, knowing the particular story/game is h/d helps even more. as in most slash stories, you have the label "slash", you obviously know draco's going to break. which distances you and lets you find his tantrums and tauntings somewhat amusing. unless the piece is just -completely- angst. say, if he was cute and snarky in a deathfic, it wouldn't be quite as adorable, would it. *sigh* it's all in the context, yes.
