Another day, another crazy idea.

They say a 'serious' writer should write something every day, just to get into the flow of things. And I love it when I'm writing consistently-- it makes me feel a bit less like a complete dork (while I'm doing it, anyway). Even if I hate what I end up with, the sense of accomplishment and pleasure I get from merely -writing- is considerable (which is prolly why my lj entries are so wordy). And yet, I'm lazy, so.

It occurred to me that it'd be great to make a community where all the members signed up to post whatever scrap of writing they wanted, as long or short as they wanted-- whether complete, part of a WIP, original fic or fanfic. Anything, as long as it's creative writing, and as long as it's posted as a sort of writer's log.

Post writers' issues, too-- what issues you're having (writer's block-wise) that day, or what plot/characterization tangle's driving you mad at the moment. Maybe someone can help-- or maybe just writing it out can help.

It could be friends-locked so that the public at large didn't see any embarrassing bits or pieces of a WIP. You wouldn't have to put the community on watch-- 'cause the point is to post, not necessarily read to comment. Writer support would be an option.

This won't work if the people who sign up don't write something every day they have any tiny scrap of time-- which should be at least 3-4 days a week if not 7. Joining would basically be a commitment.

Say-- as an experiment, we can have a 'writ-a-thon' for the summer. Try to write something daily-- anything-- for the rest of the summer, and post it as an encouragement to yourself & others.

I realize the interest in this will be small (not to say nonexistent) so I'm not friends locking this, but-- the community would ideally not be huge. But I doubt there'd be that much interest, so.

What say ye?

I'll create it if there's some interest.

Ahhhh, H/D sextagenarian awkward-old-man sex, ack, am so in love, so in love!!

What a good idea!

I have the same problem you have,(i.e. laziness) and a related problem called not being able to finish anything, so posting the fragments sounds perfect. If you do decide to create it, count me in!

That's a very cool idea. Doing something every day is very helpful to get over writer's block and laziness. At one point, I wrote something every day for two months, and I felt a lot more creative than I do now.

*whacks at writer's block with a stick in a symbolic fashion*

That's a really, really good idea. Besides, we all seem to have far too much time on our hands over the summer...

Question: would it be orientated around original fic and HP, or could we jump from fandom to fandom?

It sounds like a good idea, go for it. I haven't managed to finish anything since my last fic in November, and I have almost eleven short fics than need finishing, but I'm not sure if I can join, even though it seems good. I doubt that I would commit to post daily, and I tend to write in bits and pieces, so my WiPs would make fuck all sense.

I have been so proud of myself for, like, a week now? I've had a rather small word count a day I'm trying to meet and have been doing it. I really do feel like less of a slug! I don't think I'd post any of it yet just because a lot of it is still more like sketches or doodles but well, it could be interesting....

Sounds like a wonderful idea. Count me in.

(Sorry, you don't really know me. Popped in through friendsfriends. But you're quite fascinating.)

I agree, that's a great idea. I suffer from procrastination, so I'll have to get off my lazy bum and write.

Well, the point is to post 'sketches' or bits & pieces-- anything. It doesn't have to make sense-- as in, it's not there to get comments but the posting is just like, 'proof' that you did it :> Okay I'll make it then~:)

Well, like, bits & pieces are what it's there for~:) It doesn't need to make sense-- since it's not there for comments from others, y'know, more as a log :> And you can friends lock it and stuff. Heheh I think there's some sort of... innate embarrassment a lot of people have with the idea of showing their unpolished doodlings, but that was the point... just kind of writing to -write-, not to make sense or write a 'story' or anything. Just. Scribble! Make a really creative laundry list! That sort of thing :>

That sounds great. I can never seem to develop a full fic, but I'm constantly writing little paragraphs that explore an aspect of a character that fascinates me, or just because I like the way the words sound. It'd be nice to have a forum for help and advice as well; I always isolate myself when I have writer's block (which is always) and it never, never works. I can't wait.

PS. I got here through reading your fic and then being intrigued by your theorising. I don't think there's such a thing as an overly wordy blog :)

Random person dropping in to say I'd be interested in doing something like this. I just applied to join, I hope you don't mind! A place to just write whatever you want at all sounds great.
