Duuuude. See, I was drowning in all this we-hate-each-other-but-we-love-each-other -angst-, right. And then... and then. I was randomly downloading Fruits Basket vids ('cause my obsessions, they come and go), and of course then I remembered Kodocha, which I also used to be majorly obsessed with. And okay... like... Sana and Hayama? They're so my perfect (12 year-old) couple. I mean. It doesn't get any better than that.
They start off with Hayama being this cool-as-ice (ice, baby, ice) 12 year-old. Nothing fazes him. He's like The Fonz, except he's twelve. Immediately, Sana hates him, right, 'cause all he does is cause pandemonium and act like he's the king of the world (which, you know, he -is-). She decides they're natural enemies.
Of course, he immediately does everything he can to piss her off, though it doesn't take much. His mere existence is too much for her. She can dish it out, too, 'cause she's one super-violent twelve-year old girl. He's rather impressed, but he doesn't show it. She's his match, though, so he kind of falls in love in a hurry, but she keeps bonking him over the head and so on. Slowly but surely, he exposes all manner of vulnerabilities to her, and she does soften towards him... she begins to understand why he acts the way he does... but she's still resistant. And he's still a bastard, or at least he likes to act like one. God, I love him.
Anyway, it occurred to me that angst is silly. What I love (a lot) is the sort of cracked school-yard bickering (H/D in a nutshell), more than "woe, our love, it is DOOMED". Like, their forces of personality are awe-inspiring-- a clash of mini-titans. They're both stubborn, both insane, and both immature. Furniture is going to get destroyed. Kisses are going to get stolen. Someone's Hammer Of Doom is going to come down on someone's head. It's perfect.
I love it when it's -boys- (and girls) instead of like... older people, 'cause... there's -humor- in the set-up. And zaniness. And insanity. Instead of... angst... more angst... then... when you think you're clear... you get more angst. I'm all about the 12 year-old temper tantrums and the tiny moments of heart-breaking sincerity before everything gets silly again. Okay, I feel better now.

heeee! Yeah, I mean... there isn't necessarily anything about being 12 that's funny (or funnier than being 16 or 22 or what have you)... per se. *giggles*
But... no hormones? Eh? *laughs*
12 year-old angst is -scary-.
But see, see! Pony-tail pulling! And! Gum-sticking in unfortunate areas! And! Tripping in the hallways! And! Chaste kisses that make you blush!!
....or is that just the anime talking?? -.-
To be young
Date: 2004-02-18 05:13 pm (UTC)I must agree that young romance is one of the most intresting times in most people's lives. The fear of new experiences, the joy of becoming accepted, and the struggle to overcome ingrown prejudices against the opposite sex. Or same sex. ^_^ I haven't watched Kodomo no Ocha yet, but I plan too. I love angry boys versus a likeable more upbeat counterpart. (as long as the counterpart isn't a complete airhead) O.k. I just realized I'm rambling without having ever posted to your journal before. Sorry, I just find your posts very intresting...I am a loyal H/D shipper and your comments on them are so well thought out.
Re: To be young
Date: 2004-02-18 06:14 pm (UTC)Then again, I'm pretty forgiving. I didn't mind Miaka. Didn't -love- her, but didn't -hate- her. It's hard for me to hate characters that aren't doing anything all that offensive besides being dumb & perky. I mean, in real life that's pretty offensive, but they're... I dunno. Not real life. It helps :>
Er. Where was I? Oh yes, I ramble a lot. Never fear to ramble at me, because that is what I live for, man~:)
