yukipon's h/d art has killed me again. gar. sex on a stick, man. yes, thank you.
speaking of sex on a stick... ahahahah. silvia wrote some, except, um. if it was a person i wouldn't proposition it for a one-night stand so much as declare my undying passion for its soul. or something like that, heh.
EDIT - it's raining porn, ehehehe. see, this is the Good Stuff. yes. the good stuff. mmmmr, am happy. zahra made harry & draco happy. all is good >:D<

holy crap. *would laugh madly if it didn't make her hack and cough* i'd say that's the best "fanfic" ever, but okay, that'd be a bit of hyperbole on my part. seriously though. ahahahaah. awww, harry. i love it. Real-World!Harry. with his show. in las vegas. *dies*

[livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca's `armchair' is one of those fics i said i wouldn't read before i finish the one -i- began for the `across a crowded room' challenge. i mean, i've seen the other fic for the picture i'm writing for, and um, decided i really needed to rescue the pic from such treatment. but anyway. read it anyway. am reccing it whole-heartedly. realism and subtlety about emotional trauma always makes me a quivering pile of admiring goo.
maybe i could make a compendium of fics, call it, "Harry/Draco 101". heh. or just, "Harry 101". read these to get a sense of extra-canonical!harry. read these to get a sense of extra-canonical!draco. and read these others to get a sense of what to never, never do, no matter how you're tempted, if you want to be in character and aren't just writing anonymous-boy!porn.
anyway, in case you're wondering, no, nothing i've ever written myself i'd consider worthy of study. this though. this might be worthy of study. and yah, i like smut and angst and fluff, but i just can't enjoy it as much if the names are merely there to afford you readers who want "fanfic"-- and yes, i've written a thing or two that probably "just used names", myself. i don't know, i don't try to justify it, only to say that i wrote it for my own amusement, which is all the reason anyone needs, of course. if it gets you off to imagine these characters doing "that"-- go ahead. what am i, the fanfic police? ahahahah. the very -idea- that anyone would actually attempt to police certain things in fanfic is ludicrous.

lots of that going on, at one time or another. personally, i express opinions and preferences, i don't mean them to dictate anyone's behavior. i don't ever mean to dictate anyone's behavior, but that's just me. so, thinking about people within fandom wanting to censor or stamp out certain things other people write (also within fandom), just boggles me. "but you can't do that, that's -wrong-", ahahahaha. those people are taking things just a tad too personally.

but, they probably say. you can't just separate fandom and the "real world" like that. fandom -is- real, and the real world has rules, you know, about what's in good taste, what's acceptable to make public and what isn't. well, okay. those rules, though, are there because the people with money and power want to keep that money and power. what, you think the laws are handed down from the Wise Men at the top of the Mountain? it all depends what your ideology is. one man's heresy is another man's beautiful ideal.

i mean, take plagiarism. bad, bad, so very bad. i can easily make it beautiful and right, using a different set of givens. people hate other people taking their stuff because they're possessive of it, thinking they own their words, they own their work, and they own themselves. they want to control their art, and they want to control any admiration or pleasure anyone sees fit to direct at it. they identify themselves with their creations, and they think if someone appropriates their creation, they're appropriating some part of -them-, whether it be material or emotional.

now, this is only one system of belief. another system would be to say that sharing is a beautiful thing, and none of us own ourselves, or the earth, or our art. our art, we could say, is given to us by the Muses, we are inspired by forces outside ourselves and we touch upon something greater, something we cannot encompass, when we create art or realize a truth about the world, or discover something about it. we do not thus own ourselves-- no one owns anything-- everything is One. our thoughts are informed and changed by others' thoughts, our personalities shaped by our environment and by the genes our parents and their parents and so on through generations have handed down to us. we're just using them and recombining them, and giving them away to be recombined yet again. we are all creating the world together, we could say, and the world is creating us in return.

see?

now, personally, i wouldn't take anything someone didn't want me to take just because i wouldn't want to hurt that person's feelings. but as far as buying into some sort of schematic of "this is how it has to be, with art", i don't see it. nothing -has- to be. art is intrinsically free of definition, until you tie it to someone's ego. i can go and recombine 1-inch pieces out of 1000 famous works of art, and put them all on a canvas, and splatter red paint over them, and you know what? i bet i'd have a work of "modern art" on my hands. sure, enough people would scoff and think it's "heresy", but enough other people would oooh and ahhh and think i'm a genius~:) well, it could happen.

it does annoy me, when people cling to their art with all the might their ego could muster. "mine! mine! don't touch! mine!" it's as if it's their little cuddle-blanket, or something. okay, so if you took a story of mine and posted it on ff.net under your name, i suppose i'd get upset, just because i'd be confused and surprised and i wouldn't know why anyone would want to, realistically, except as a prank meant to hurt me or because they're stupid and can't make anything themselves. but it's not the -act- so much as the -connotation- i can't escape from. but if they -used- something of mine, quoted it, changed it, transformed it-- i'd be happy, flattered. they're playing with me, with my ideas. they like me. they think i'm worthy. that's my connotation, because that's why -i- would do such a thing, whereas i would never do the former, ie, just take someone's story, so i have no clue why someone would.

anyway. no point to this, dunno why i started on this rant except some slight provocation by reading this. gar. well, i'd erase it (pointless babbling), but who cares, might as well keep it, right.
