um, so... I've missed your thoughtfulness, reena, a lot.
I have to agree with you, yaoi pisses me off a lot because of seme/uke -- I get so frustrated when the uke sits around and cries all the time and clings to the seme, who stoically and masculinely ignores him until he randomly feels like some having some hot, hot sex.
I recently read on a messageboard a girl saying, and I paraphrase, "[character] can't be an uke, he's too manly! I always see the uke as being more of a girl. In yaoi, it's like it's a guy and a girl, only you just conveniently get two dicks."
And I guess if you look at it that way, well, seme/uke makes sense. Only personally, I read male/male fiction because I like male/male, not because I like male/femalewholooksmale.
Besides which, what's with uke = crybaby little whiner = girl? I mean, I guess it's just that in a lot of straight fiction, the girls tend to be more weepy and sentimental than the guys (haha, tend to be? who am I kidding), and so this sort of formulaic relationship is just being layered onto characters of the same sex.
Only this sucks, because it's damned stupid in straight fiction, so why would it ever be anything other than that in gay fiction?
Aaannnnyway, I'm sorry for giving you a heart attack today when I briefly re-activated my lj-account (to check and see what art I had left there before I killed it). I don't know if I'm going to be officially really involved in fandom much. This journal, re: its very creative name, really is a load of crap about My Life, and I don't have a fandom journal as of now.
But nonetheless, I'm awfully glad to be back. I'll pop in on your journal every so often, although please don't feel obligated to friend me because my life is BORING, but... talk to me! langostaburger on aim. :D~ I'll see you around. Much loff. (eddy)
